Audi Prologue Piloted Driving Concept debuts at 2015 CES

The Audi Prologue Concept has been updated for the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, debuting the company's Piloted Driving technology, a new powertrain and new styling elements.

The Piloted Driving system - which has just been put through its paces on an 885-kilometre trip to the tech show - uses radars and sensors at the front and rear of the car to "create a detailed impression of the car’s surroundings".

The system can accelerate, brake, and steer the car, as well as perform overtaking manoeuvres when the vehicle's control system thinks it's necessary. It cannot, however, drive itself in built-up, traffic-prone areas.

Coated in a new dark grey paint and wearing newly designed five-spoke alloy wheels, the Audi Prologue Concept - which is destined to form the styling basis for the German company's future top-end models - looks decidedly more sporty than the car that was shown at the Los Angeles auto show in 2014.

While the red diamonds (which mark the Audi Sport line) on the brake calipers give a little away, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 now boasts the backing of an electric motor, lifting the already grunty eight-cylinder's 445kW/700Nm outputs to 500kW and 950Nm.

The result is a 0-100km/h claimed sprint time of 3.5 seconds (down 0.2sec), while emissions also drop by seven per cent (from 199g/km to 185g/km).

Inside, the Prologue also gains more of a two-tone appearance than the original concept car, including a new black leather trim on the upper dash as well as the steering wheel, and darkened door-trim toppers, too.
