Mazda another to pass on Japanese free trade agreement savings to customers

Mazda has joined Subaru and Toyota in passing on reduced import duties from the imminent Japan Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Australia’s top-selling full importer has flagged price cuts of between $375 and $963 on all Japanese-made models in its range, being the Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-9

Diesel models will get price cuts of between $268 and $347 depending on model, though the revised diesel engine duties will only be phased in over the next 2-3 years.

Update: For instance, the price of the Mazda 3 Neo is reduced $510 to $19,980 plus on road-costs, the Mazda 6 Sport is reduced by $840 to $32,620, the CX-5 Maxx FWD is cut $800 to $27,180 and the CX-9 is cut by $375 to $44,150.

The Mazda 2 and BT-50 are made in Thailand, which already has an FTA.

The Japanese FTA will not take affect until January 15, but Mazda applied the price cuts from January 1.

The company has not provided a full rundown of its revised range pricing, but we have contacted its spokespeople for more information. Stay tuned.

As announced today, Mazda once again won the title as Australia’s biggest full-line importer in 2014, edging out Hyundai with a sales tally of 11,704, enough for about a 9 per cent share of the market.
