Subaru passes on free trade agreement savings; cuts up to $1000 from Forester, Impreza and XV

Subaru will pass on savings of between $500 and $1000 across its Forester, Impreza and XV ranges in anticipation of the finalisation of Australia’s free trade agreement (FTA) with Japan.

From January 16, Subaru will cut $1000 from the manufacturer’s list price of the Forester, $750 from the XV and $500 from the Impreza.

The price reductions lower the entry price of the Impreza to $23,490 driveaway, the XV to $27,740 before on-road costs, and the Forester to $28,990 before on-road costs.

Until January 16, Subaru has introduced the New Year Sale campaign, under which every Forester, Impreza and XV in dealer stock will be effectively reduced in price to reflect the new list prices.

Subaru says the pricing restructure completes a strategy it began in March 2014, when it launched the WRX from $38,990 – undercutting the original that launched 20 years earlier.

It was joined the following month by the WRX STI, from which Subaru slashed $10,000 off its starting price.

The BRZ remains the only model to continue at its price point ($37,150 driveaway), though the car recently benefitted from a subtle upgrade that brought suspension refinements and interior and exterior tweaks.

The Forester is due for an update in March, while a refreshed Impreza will follow it before the middle of the year, before an updated XV arrives in the second half.
