2015 Ford New Cars

Details of the new and updated Ford models launching in Australia in 2015.

Ford Mondeo – March/April

The 2015 Ford Mondeo will become the most technologically advanced model in the company’s local showroom when it arrives in autumn.

All models come standard with front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, steering wheel paddleshifters, SYNC 2 infotainment system with satellite navigation and digital radio, 8.0-inch touchscreen, inflatable rear seats and the MyKey system.

The Mondeo Titanium heads the range with adaptive LED headlights, adaptive suspension, panoramic glass roof, leather sports seats with front and rear heaters, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, lane keeping aid and assist, and enhanced active park assist, among other features.

Mondeo hatch and wagon models will be available with three 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engines, including low- and high-output versions of an EcoBoost petrol motor (149kW/345Nm and 177kW/345Nm) and a single tune of a TDCi diesel (132kW/400Nm).

Pricing details will be announced closer to the Mondeo’s local launch, though it’s expected to largely mirror the positioning of the outgoing model, which costs between $31,490 and $48,490.

Ford Focus ST – May

The German-built Focus ST hot-hatch will be the first of the updated small car range in Australia, beating the rest of the Thailand-sourced Focus range that’s due to launch around the middle of the year.

The 2015 Focus ST features mildly revised styling with a higher honeycomb grille, larger lower intake, slimmer headlights and foglights, re-profiled bonnet, tweaked tail-lights and a deeper rear bumper.

The cabin benefits from an overhauled centre stack with a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen display with a reverse-view camera and fewer button and dials, aiding usability. A new flat-bottom steering wheel is standard, while heated front seats will be available in some markets.

The 184kW/340Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and six-speed manual transmission carry over unchanged, though Ford has reworked the steering and suspension, targeting an even sharper drive.

Ford Focus update – Mid 2015

The Focus small car will benefit from a significant mid-life update around the middle of the year, refreshed outside, inside and under the bonnet.

The 2015 Focus gains the brand’s now-signature chrome-slatted hexagonal grille along with slimmer headlights and other exterior tweaks, while the cabin gets a cleaner dashboard with fewer buttons and a larger centre screen with Ford’s SYNC 2 connectivity system.

It will benefit from a host of new and improved technologies, including automatic perpendicular parking, rear cross traffic alert, park-out assist (to guide drivers out of parallel spaces), enhanced collision avoidance auto braking up to 50km/h, enhanced adaptive cruise control with preferred following distance options, and MyKey technology.

The existing 125kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is set to make way for a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine with either 110kW or 132kW, while the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo – available in 74kW and 92kW tunes – may replace the ageing naturally aspirated 92kW 1.6-litre.

Power from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel is set to dip from 120kW to 110kW, though Ford is also promising a 13 per cent fuel economy improvement, potentially dropping combined cycle consumption to 4.8 litres per 100km.

Ford’s engineers say the updated Focus’s revised steering, suspension and electronic stability control systems deliver a “more solid, responsive and connected-to-the-road feel”.

Ford Ranger update – Q3

Australia’s second-best-selling ute, the locally designed and engineered Ford Ranger, will get its first significant update around the third quarter of 2015.

Revealed in a teaser video released in November, the 2015 Ranger features a fresh face inspired by the Everest SUV that will arrive a few months later.

The Ranger’s headlights appear identical to the Everest’s, hugging the ute’s new hexagonal chrome grille that continues into its bumper that looks bolder than before with a reshaped lower intake and foglight cut outs.

The Ranger is expected to benefit from some of the refinements and technologies developed for the Everest, including engine and automatic transmission updates.

It may also upgrade to the latest SYNC 2 infotainment system and gain some of the Everest’s advanced safety systems, which include hands-free auto reverse parallel parking, adaptive cruise control and active lane keeping, though again Ranger specifications remain top secret at this stage.

Ford Everest – Q4

The all-new Ford Everest will be one of the most capable, technologically advanced, safest and most fuel efficient SUVs of its kind when it launches in Australia towards the end of 2015.

As with the Ranger ute on which it’s based, the 2015 Ford Everest owes much to the team at Ford Australia, which took the lead role in its design and engineering.

While the Everest retains the Ranger’s body-on-frame construction and front suspension layout, the seven-seater gets a more sophisticated and car-like solid rear axle with coil springs and a Watts linkage in place of the ute’s leaf spring setup, as Ford targets a more refined and comfortable ride.

The Ford Everest will offer one of the broadest drivetrain line-ups in its class, with three turbocharged engines (2.0-litre petrol, and 2.2- and 3.2-litre diesels), manual and automatic transmissions, and rear- and four-wheel-drive layouts.

Claimed segment-first driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping aid, active park assist for hands-free reverse parallel parking, and curve control, which detects if the vehicle is entering a corner too quickly and applies braking force and reduces engine torque to safely slow the vehicle.

The Everest will be produced alongside the Ranger in Thailand and will target the Toyota Prado, which is priced from $55,990.

Ford Mustang – December

We may all still be enjoying the current festive season, but there’s already something on our wish list for next Christmas: the new-generation Ford Mustang.

The iconic rear-wheel-drive sports car will launch in coupe and roadster body styles with the choice of 233kW/432Nm 2.3-litre turbo and 303kW/525Nm 5.0-litre V8 engines.

Standard exterior features include keyless entry, stainless steel dual exhaust, auto HID headlights, daytime running lights, LED tail-lights, ‘Pony’ projection lights and rain-sensing wipers.

The cabin will benefit from push-button start, dual-zone climate control, six-way power driver’s seat, heated and cooled front seats, leather upholstery, and the SYNC 2 infotainment system with 8.0-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation, reverse-view camera and Emergency Assistance.

Mustang prices have been rumoured to range from about $50,000 for the four-cylinder coupe to $70,000 for the V8 roadster.
