Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Pirelli Edition heading for production in 2015

In 2015, the house of the raging bull will begin producing a limited number of Lamborghini Aventador Pirelli Edition vehicles in both coupe and roadster body styles.

Since the former tractor manufacturer began producing road cars in 1963, every Lamborghini has worn Pirelli-made rubber and this special edition Aventador has been designed to celebrate that collaboration.

Visually, the Lamborghini Aventador Pirelli Edition is distinguished by a clear housing for the engine bay and a two-tone exterior. Buyers can choose between a combination which matches a matte black upper portion with glossy lower body paint, or glossy black upper with matte paint on the lower section.

In a nod to Lamborghini's perennial partner in tyres there are red highlights aplenty. There's a thin red stripe that runs from the top of the A-pillar to a few inches short of the rear of the car; similar stripes can be found on the wing mirrors and on the edges of some of the car's air intakes.

The special edition Aventador wears gloss black 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch rims at the rear. These are clad in red pinstriped Pirelli P Zero tyres and hide red brake calipers, although yellow calipers are fitted to cars that are red below the waist.

On the inside, the Aventador Pirelli Edition features a primarily black interior. The acres of black Alcantara and leather are broken up by contrasting red stitching on the seats and headlining. Red Lamborghini and Pirelli logos also adorn the car's pews.

Those who were hoping for a few spuds will be a little disappointed, as the Aventador Pirelli Edition features the same drivetrain and mechanical package as the regular LP700-4.

That means there's a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 behind the passenger cell generating 515kW of power and 690Nm of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed ISR (independent shift rod) transmission.

Performance remains unchanged, with the 0-100km/h standard taking 2.9 seconds to complete and a claimed top speed of 350km/h.

No word yet on how many Aventador Pirelli Edition models Lamborghini will produce, nor how much more they'll cost compared to the standard LP700-4.
