2015 Toyota Prius C facelift revealed

The 2015 Toyota Prius C was revealed at today’s Los Angeles auto show, premiering a fresh look and a revised interior.

The first update for the city-sized Prius C introduces a new exterior design comprising an expansive black hexagonal grille that dominates the front end, reshaped headlights with standard LED headlamps, a restyled front bumper with new fog lights and indicators, shark-fin roof antenna and redesigned ‘light pipe’ LED tail-lights.

Three new colours join an updated paint palette: Electric Lime Metallic, Tangerine Splash Pearl and Sparkling Sea Metallic.

Toyota has also refreshed the Prius C’s cabin, adding new “premium materials” across the dashboard and throughout the interior, new seat upholstery, and a revised centre stack with new climate controls and an upgraded infotainment system.

The baby of the Toyota’s petrol-electric family is otherwise unchanged, meaning its hybrid powertrain carries over unchanged. The Prius C teams a 54kW/111Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder ‘Atkinson cycle’ petrol engine with a 45kW/169Nm electric motor and a nickel-metal-hydride battery for a combined output of 74kW. Power is sent to the front wheels via an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT).

It’s frugal fuel consumption, rated at 3.9 litres per 100 kilometres in Australia, is also expected to be unchanged when the updated model goes on sale.

Toyota Australia product public relations manager Steve Coughlan told CarAdvice the updated Prius C will arrive in local showrooms in the first quarter of next year. He said local details and specifications will be revealed at that time.

The refreshed Prius C comes a little over a month after Toyota took the wraps off the updated 2015 Prius V seven-seater. The hybrid MPV benefits from a similar set of interior and exterior upgrades, and is destined to reach our shores around the middle of next year.
