BMW i Remote app for Samsung smartwatch wins CES award

Not content with just winning engineering and design awards, BMW has won the top prize in the 2015 CES Innovations Awards - Software and Mobile Apps category - for its new i Remote app for Samsung Gear smartwatch.

Entries in the awards are judged on a multitude of criteria, including aesthetic design, functionality, user-friendliness and innovation.

The app allows owners of BMW i3 and i8 electric cars to communicate with their vehicles via the smartwatch.

Information about the car is displayed in real time - battery charge level, electric range remaining, even estimated recharge time for when the car is docked to its power lead.

The i Remote app also provides similar functionality to BMW's existing ConnectedDrive smartphone application, allowing owners to prime ventilation systems, lock and unlock doors, and provide GPS based directions back to the car when it is parked.
