2011 Audi A3 illustrated

May 27, 2009 by George Skentzos

The new generation Audi A3 may be a while out yet – especially with the newly-crowned RS3 performance flagship yet to make its showroom debut – but in the meantime these illustrations give us an idea of what we should expect when the car is released.

Its original release date later this year has been pushed back yet again to mid-2010, although it could easily take until 2011 before we see the new range in local showrooms in the basic three and five-door hatchback models.

From there, Audi will also begin to introduce the rest of the A3 range including a new Cabriolet model, Sportback wagon and even the possibility of an Allroad soft-roader.

The good news is Audi is likely to give even basic models and aggressive undertone to compete with BMW’s 1 Series range, as well as introducing a new batch of genuine hardcore performance hatches.

Also not unlike the 1 Series, the new generation Audi A3’s length has supposedly swelled to 4.2 metres long, supposedly hinting at the release of a new coupe version as well.

Mmmmm – not a fan of the tiny window look at all.

Audi customers are conservative, proven by the current conservative styling aiding ever increasing sales.

This is too radical, would put me off for sure.

  2. Duck says:

^^^^^I agree Reckless1. The current A3 is good looking, but it will need an upgrade soon. But this is way too radical.

  3. Eventide says:

^ Do you really think it’s too radical guys? Still seems sufficiently ‘conservative’ to satisfy most people, and the rear view in particular looks very Q5-ish. I don’t mind the back, but I hope the front gets refined a bit more than that.

  4. Tim says:

    God damn, thats HOT!

  5. Cupid Stunt says:

Progression rather than revolution methinks. Can’t see the extent of the samll windows getting through to production. Good point that Audi has to up the anti against BMW. The A3’s a big seller so sporty is essential to get the young yuppy types into there cars. I do hope they solve their choppy ride problems with the current A3, having driven two varieties an SE and a Sport the ride almost gave me see sickness at times.

What’s the name of that skinny fish with a big mouth?

  7. Golfschwein says:

    Julia Roberts.

  8. observer says:

I have mixed feelings about this design….it has an element of conservative styling from the side….I dont mind the back….but the front lines are to angular compared to the rest of the car.

Surely this is not the work of Walter Da Silvio (Ex Alfa Romeo chief designer) who penned the last crop of Audi’s design styling cues. A4, A3 A6 etc with great looks.

  9. Cupid Stunt says:

That’s Obsever observing. Well done. Tee Hee

  10. Yanzo says:

damn the ony thing i didn’t like about the current audis is the front lights but now the looks are flawless

  11. Pious says:

I like this a lot. Front looks like the 2010 s60 concept. Sides are a bit like the jag, maybe? Dont think that the back achieves any new ground, but it looks OK.

  12. XR6T GOD says:

Progressive is the word i would use, looks good.

  13. Frontman says:

The front looks like it came out of the same photoshop as those Focus forsight thingies…. Seems all photoshop programs are doing the same future shapes.

  14. Fahrenheit533 says:

Looks like Audi decided to use the IROC grill that VW abandoned in the production Scirocco!

  15. Neo Utopia says:

Seems like a diffferent design team worked on the rear, the front looks a bit too angular for Audi, should be more like the A1, the rear looks a bit too sedate.
