2010 Hyundai Tucson illustrated

May 27, 2009 by George Skentzos

First shown as a concept way back in 2005 at the Chicago Auto Show, the Hyundai Portico crossover SUV is still yet to reach showrooms, although it may arrive sooner rather than later as a replacement for the Tucson.

The Tucson nameplate may yet live on as the production spec Portico, but one thing for certain is that the new generation model will be radically different from the current version.

These artists renderings give us an idea of just how radically different the new Tucson should be, arriving essentially as an all-new model by mid-2010.

Unlike most crossover SUVs, the new Tucson should have enough seating for six passengers, powered exclusively by a range of diesel and petrol four-cylinder engines in both naturally-aspirated and turbocharged guise.

Production for Hyundai’s home market of Korea is expected to begin by the end of 2009.

FINALLY!!!!!! An update on the Tuscon!!!

The second picture reminds me of the Subaru Tribeca. Andybody agree?

  2. Myke says:

^It kinda does from the back, but its overall profile looks like a people mover. Considering the Tucson sits at the bottom of Hyundai’s SUV lineup, this thing looks huge.

  3. Tim says:

Agree Myke…this looks like Prado size! Nice look, the front has hints of the Lexus RX350 and that photoshop of the wheels in the second picture is laughable lol.

  4. Andrew M says:

initial thought is that someone has thrown an Impreza front and Kluger rear together.

Luggage QTR window hints of ssangyong

  5. Bret says:

Don’t mind the front at all, but the rear 3/4 screams Ssangyong to me.
It breaks the mould a bit, but that’s not neccessarily a bad thing in this case.

  6. gazman says:

Hyundai PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE a 5/6 speed auto my only complaint about my V6 Tucson is the 4 speed auto.

  7. Byron says:

I hate artist impressions. They are only sometimes the real thing. This isn’t. Front end is ok, but again it’s an artist impression. Back end looks very Tribeca & the stretched back window is hideous. Give Hyundai some cred for there cars. They’re actually finally making good looking cars these days. Can’t wait for it

  8. Captain Mainwaring says:

Anyone in the know would KNOW that this is no Tuscon replacement. Too low, too long, not enough ground clearance.
Maybe it’s the replacement for the unloved LaVita. That would make more sense.

  9. oh says:

Captain/ I think it’s the replacement for the unloved Trajet…LaVita is much shorter than Tuscon..

  10. trippyfoo says:

I’d also agree it’s not the Tucson – I thought that the replacement was shown a few months ago at one of the European motorshows – Rather attractive it was too. Seemed to be suggest the new Tucson was going to be renamed Ix-35.

  11. APP says:

Looks like the upcoming Hyundai Portico — heaps of spy photos about on the net.

  12. Murano says:

Looks good but side proile looks like Nissan Murano. Anyways, its a mid range Hyundai, so it’s forgivable. LOL

  13. c3vzn says:

err…the replacement is going to be the ix35 based on the HED-6 concept which looks nothing like this.

  14. Baji says:

The hyundai portico is NOT the Tucson replacement. Like C3vzn said, the replacement for the tucson is the HED-6 concept.

The first photochop is okay. The second is poorly done and doesn’t represent much imo. Definitely looks like the streched rear end of the Tribeca.

  15. Neo Utopia says:

The front looks OK, not the back though.
