Mitsubishi Evo FQ400 – UK only

May 27, 2009 by Karl Peskett

Get ready to be depressed, AWD fans. The ultra, mega, super, hyper (and any other prefix) ballistic Mitsubishi Evo FQ400 is to be released in June. But we won’t get to see it.

mitsufq400-2

Yes, it’s a UK only special, with Mitsu’s engineers extracting every last drop of performance, without voiding their own warranties. Try these for some numbers: 300kW. 525Nm. 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds.

mitsufq400-1

1.5 seconds. That last figure is how long it takes for depression to set in, when you realise that we won’t be getting it to our shores.

mitsufq400-4

To ensure all that power hasn’t been put to waste, the FQ400 receives new Eibach springs, Bilstein dampers, and Toyo Proxes R1R 18-inch tyres. There are also floating sealed discs and lighter alloys in the braking system, which has been revised slightly. There are, of course, tweaks to the ECU to tune it slightly, but also a new turbocharger, and different injectors, which boost the power, all running through a five-speed manual.

mitsufq400-3

Outside, you’ll notice the extra vent in the front bumper, and a different, carbon fibre rear diffuser. There will also be a surprising amount of dribble on your chin, too.

UK pricing is set at £49,999, which at today’s exchange rate, is a little over $100,000.

We’re off to cry in the corner now.

MY GOODNESS THAT IS FAST! 3.8s to 100!!!!

Any idea what kind of money a Brit will need to get hands on one of these?

Also, I wonder what kind of lap time it would clock around ‘The Ring’.

Is this a proper manual or the dual clutch gearbox? Awesome car and hopefully not as laggy as the previous FQ400.

Why is it that the UK get all these factory based modified cars and we never see anything? There was a similar car from another manufacturer not that long ago if I remember correctly.
What will it take for the global market to realise that the Australian market wants cars like this as well?

We are not taken seriously by many overseas countries when they eventually do send their cars here.

The lap time on the ring probably wouldn’t be all that great as you would have to stop half way to re-fuel.

      Unreal car though!

whatever price mitsubishi UK decides to sell it, it will still be cheaper than a Lambo, ferrari etc …. I mean 3.8sec is supercar territory, right???

Take that Subaru! lets see what they come up with now! heheh

Well you can modify your current EVOX or Subaru STi, put 265/18/55 tyres on the RR wheels, 245/18/50 on the FR wheels.

Crank the boost to 1.5x the current boost.
      Modify the ECU
Tune the gear settings to achieve max torque at 2500~2700rpm.

And you can have a sub 3.8~4 second 0-100 car…

but there goes the Warranty hehe

Surely Mitso could ask for expression of interest in this car for Australia.

Does it come back to complying to our Australian design rules compared to European design and Japanese design rules?

      I agree with Lukass,
This must have gearing that only favours 0-100 times.

To get to 100 in a Wow of a time with only 300kw, my guess is that this has bugger all top end.

      Bloody impressive though!!!!!

Pity it doesnt get the VRX tail lights.
When you see these ones up close they look more like pink than red, First impression is that they were red ones that faded

      CA,
any idea of the UK pricing on this????

    17. Vote -1 Vote +1Karl Peskett
      says:

Andrew M, pricing has just been added.

Top speed, so that you know, is electronically limited to 250km/h. So there goes the gearing argument.

No, we don’t know what transmission it uses atm.

      Karl,
      Any idea on weight???
For me, what makes this far out is that these things still weigh a fair bit.
Small cars dont weigh sub 1000kgs like they used to.

    19. Vote -1 Vote +1Karl Peskett
      says:

Andrew, it has a 1560kg kerb weight. And we’ve just been handed a release which states it’s a five speed manual.

The article has been edited to suit.

      Cheers

      Electronically limited to 250kmph?
But doesnt really say what is top speed with current gear setup…

0-100 in 3.8 seconds, there has to be a compromise in high speed capability… maybe it red lines at 160kmph….

      Still damn impressive!

I think Mitsubishi knows how bad the Australian road regulations anyways, no point doing it off the factory… so if you have an EVOX just tune it yourself.

      says:

I dare say it’ll only be with the 5 speed manual. They’ve just released the FQ 330 with the TC-SST so I don’t think the 400 would have it.

And there cars are actually built in the UK by Mitsubishi there. Talk to Alan Heaphy at Team Mitsubishi Ralliart and i’m sure they could do something pretty damn close.

      says:

I don’t think the 0-100 time is that outrageous, the previous FQ did it in around about the same time right? 100kph probably coincides with redlining the 2nd gear so a 0-100 would only involve 1 gear change.

I think it’s just the advantage of AWD from a dig.

This would have to be a street-legal track car.
Sure it’s power and speed are impressive, but when the likes of porsche can do better and still be used as a daily driver, the mitsu is hardly suitable for anything other than tracks.

Oooh how I love living in the UK. Poor old Aussies.
Nah only kidding I’d never buy one, after 80K Km it’ll be completely shagged. Besides another £5K buys the Nissan GTR thingy with lotsa go go and cred.

And another reason it’s not a diesel!!! ha ha

Wad do yah mean about getting in the Nissan. Might struggle getting my ever-increasing belly behind the wheel! but height isn’t a problem for a little 5ft niner like me. Ha Ha

I think Mitsu realizes not much people here will pay 100K+ for a super EVO here. Plus pricing here will be abit closer to the GTR price here too…

It’s sad we aussies get screwed badly when it comes to cars.

Good God 3.8s how is that possible. Its getting close to GTR territory for 50 000 less. Very nice even though we wont get it

You can allways get Base evo x and spend 70k ( AUD ) on mods if your worryed about stock GTR.

Ive done just exhaust intake and EcuTek retune with 223.8KW @ wheels so you get the idea what you can do with 70k.

    38. Vote -1 Vote +1shinjuki
      says:

I rather the base evo or just mr version with minor mods…

warranty can be fixed up easy… take off mods and off to the dealer u go =D they wouldnt have an idea.

      says:

The old Fq400 had a top speed of 175 mph (280kph) this one will most likely go the same top speed if its a 6speed with the same gearing ratios as previous Fq400s. However its a 5speed so it’ll be limited to that 250 kph
