2014 Nissan X-Trail diesel pricing and specifications

The pricing puts the diesel X-Trail at the pointy end of the field, though it applies to a front-drive version rather than an all-wheel drive powertrain as is seen in the CX-5, CR-V, Forester, Outlander, Kuga, RAV4, Sportage, ix35 - in fact, just about every model out there except the Renault Koleos.

Diesel X-Trail models are fitted with the same 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder unit found in the smaller Qashqai. That means a peak power output of 96kW at 4000rpm and torque of 320Nm at 1750rpm.

As is the case with the Qashqai, two-wheel-drive X-Trail diesel models will be offered with a standard automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT), but buyers of four-wheel-drive diesel variants will need to do the shifting themselves via a six-speed manual ‘box.

All diesel versions have claimed fuel use of 5.3 litres per 100 kilometres – bettering the petrol versions by between 2.6L and 3.0L (or between 33 and 36 per cent). All diesels have stop-start technology.

Both the 2WD and 4WD diesel-powered X-Trail models are offered in two specifications – the entry-level version being the TS and the top-dog being the TL. To make the model names more confusing, the TS diesel mimics the spec levels of the ST petrol, while the TL diesel offers equipment closer to that seen in the Ti petrol.

The 2WD diesel variants have towing capacity identical to the petrol models, with 750 kilograms without brakes and 1500kg with brakes. Diesel 4WD models better that, with 2000kg braked towing capacity. The 4WD diesel models also have hill descent control as standard, as is the case for 4WD petrol variants.
