OMG!!!
And i thought girls were bad at bitching... Paul just give up mate your clearly out numbered!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion & to speak their mind but why squabble there is no need...

I read the article & found it very insightful! Actually every review i've read on the XR4 has been a good one... I'm yet to find a bad review on this car except for what some of you guys have written on here!!

I currently drive an XR8 & i'm female... Why match gender with a car?? Everyone has there own needs & wants for a car & they choose accordingly...

I chose my XR8 because she looked great had the power i needed to wip out onto the hwy in peak hour rather then me waiting forever plus i drive on the pac hwy everyday & wanted to feel safe doing it! Why didn't i get a 6? Simple i loved the sound of the 8 more :D

However times change & petrol prices are now a JOKE! I did my research & loved what i read & seen on the XR4...

I pick my 2008 XR4 up on Tuesday & can not wait!!! I only test drove it yesterday & fell in love before i hit 5th gear lol There is a big difference between my XR8 & the XR4 & i worried i'd find it hard to down grade in power but this lil pocket rocket had me speechless...

The only other car that came close to this for me was the Polo GTI! But for $14,000 the XR4 won hands down....

:D

To the red bloooded aussie tools, commenting in this thread.

The idea that driving a big heavy v8 makes you a man, is so pathetic, it's all about insecurity.

Chicks that are actually hot AND smart, (im not talking about some orange bleached bimbo hairdresser) think guys that drive big v8's and pump up at the gym so that can't walk properly are absolute idiots.

V8 guys, the jokes on you. Everytime you fill your heavy peice of junk up.

Also Stuart cheers for that, sorry to hear it. think ill continue to steer clear of fords.

Sorry to hear your troubles with the XR4 Stuart, not entirely a surprise.

Have had mine since new for two years now and it has no mechanical troubles at all. I had a 2007 Suzuki Swift before the XR4 and the the day I picked up this car I couldn't stop driving it all day! I still love it. Maybe you should buy the Suzuki, it'll never miss a beat but it will never match the XR4 for soul, handling, looks and comfort.

Also; 7.4L/100km?!? Are they serious? If I drive this thing like my Grandma would, I still can\'t get it below 9L/100! I average 12-14. I should also point out that this car is certainly not failing through lack of maintenance! Since spending the initial ~$20k or so to get it on the road under my name, I\'ve spent no less than $5k or so (over 6 months) on servicing, parts, maintenance and just generally fixing all the sh*t that keeps falling off this thing!

It\'s almost as if Ford programmed an expiry date into the ECU: when the warranty expires, everything just falls to pieces!

ALSO, the paint is rubbish; thin, soft and very easily scratched. This car will fade chronically within the next 5 years or so.

Ok, I think that\'s it now. Sorry! It is rather pretty though, I\'ll give it that...But don\'t whatever you do, buy a car based on its looks alone.

I bought my XR4 in April this year as a daily drive; my other car's slowly getting more and more heavily modified and not that feasible to drive every day any more! I admit I bought the Fezz based largely on first impressions; 2007 model car, big safety features, low kms, one owner, etc etc. The test drive was great, so I bought it more or less on the spot (roughly $18k + on roads, with 38,000km on the clock)

Anyways, the factory warranty expired in June, and with it, so did the car. After 6 months of ownership, I can honestly say I will NEVER, EVER purchase a Ford again. It looks great, sure...but ye gods it's poorly built! This thing IS German, right? The attention to detail in the build quality, materials and ergonomics is absolutely shocking. The bumpers and trim are apparently made of recycled Tic Tac boxes. I hit a rabbit a while ago doing around 60kmh, and it has utterly destroyed all the mountings of my front bumper. It's horrifically unreliable; it doesn't start in cold or wet weather, power delivery is inconsistent and rough at best, the brakes are absolutely useless. I recently had to replace the power steering pump, which had blown a seal after 47,000km. $1000, because the seal is not available separately. The car STILL consistently boils, aerates and violently ejects power steering fluid all over the engine bay, and down over the RH side of the engine.

Also, it's noisy, chews petrol, and somehow the intake manifold is full of fresh engine oil, carbon and fuel vapour; a fairly explosive mixture, should I have an accident and pierce the front-mounted, plastic manifold!

On the topic of accidents; the computers in this car. ****ing useless, excuse my French. Ford have added ESC, ABS, brake assist, traction control and EBD. And this car is still open-diff. The addition of a simple and relatively cheap limited-slip differential would almost completely eliminate the need for ESC and traction control. I am absolutely sick of accelerating away from lights, hitting a manhole cover with one wheel, and feeling the ESC cut 90% of engine torque for like 5 seconds afterwards. It's tried to kill me numerous times, pulling this stunt while I'm turning right across heavy traffic!

In short, if you can't guess, I hate this car's rattly, unreliable, useless, poorly-built, reverse-engineered, parts-bin-special, miserable rotbox guts. If you're in the market, take your $15,000, and spend it on something good, like...say...import something from Japan, which is what I'll be doing as soon as I can flog this thing back to a dealer.

Thanks for reading.

I purchased my XR4 over a year ago mainly because the price was right and I needed a car there and then! I had been researching Mazda sp23, MPS,etc.. When I took delivery of the XR4 that was the first time I had driven it, I must say I wasnt sure about the look of it but after leaving a few people behind at traffic lights and and pushing it through a few tight corners, thats when I really started to like it. I had sold cars for a dealership for over 3 years so I can safely say I have driven a few cars in my time and I highly rate this car for many reasons.. The seats are so comfortable and the handing is amazing, its cabin is quiet considering its low suspension, I am 6 foot tall and I have been a passenger in it and have been suprised as it has more room then my previous medium sized car. Everyone that I have taken as a passenger or let drive the car has given it glowing comments.. and as For Paul and his comments above, well maybe you are trying to compensate for something?!?! Maybe you could sell you car to pay for a penis enlargement! And I have to add that by saying every other XR4 I have seen on the road has been driven by a guy!!
Any way, I think it's great fun, I still love driving it a year on and I only planned on keeping it for 6 months.
Cost me $42 to fill up and that lasts me 2 weeks of pretty spirited driving.. if you get what I'm saying!

Interesting reading, but not the bits about blokey chesting things. I'm a 45+ male, have 4 boys, ride a BMW R1200GS which is an enduro offroad cruiser type bike. Will do 0-100 in a modest 3.3 seconds. If I want fast, I'll ride that, without any peripheral A pilars distracting me. I'm on my 3rd falcon, also have a territory, have done alfa, land cruisers, patrol, and a tarago to fit the 4 sons. Just picking up a 2007 XR4, affordable 5 seater to throw around and feel alive. But I don't do it to impress someone I don't know, I've got boxes to tick for myself first, its the tickle inside me I want more than anything. Hope that helps you guys and girls to focus on what is important. cheers.

The interior aesthetically ruled this car out for me. It's just plain ugly.

Aside from that, performance wise it just lacks Torque, pure and simple. Which, IMO, is the bread & butter of a hot hatch.

Also, the lack of turbocharger makes this car very hard to extract cheap power upgrades from.

A VW Polo GTi with the APR ECU re-map ($1400) outputs 152kW and 328Nm, which will absolutely blow the XR4 off the road. And even as a stock-standard car the Polo GTi performs better.

In saying all that, I don't think that the XR4 isn't a good car, I just think there are better cars in a similar category.

On the Falcon note, why do people feel the need to compare cars of completely polar opposite categories?
