2008 Ford Falcon Ute and XR6 Turbo Sprung!

Unlike Holden, Ford seems to be preparing their Falcon Utility to coincide with the release of their new model – codename Orion.
Our spy photographer has sprung the Falcon Ute during testing in an undisclosed location in Victoria’s bushy countryside. Although the photos aren’t quite crystal clear, there is an obvious indication that body size will remain similar to Ford’s currently successful utility range.
The model photographed seems to be a base model with tray attached. It’s also nice to see the Ute decked out with a big set of alloy wheels which – I would think – probably won’t be seen on the ready model.

Whilst waiting for the Ford Falcon Ute to come past, our sleuth photographer snapped off a few shots of a car we have seen before.
This time around, the car was much closer, revealing some more information about the vehicle’s shape and contours. The front end reveals new sculpting for the fog lights and also some humps on the bonnet…we’ll leave that to your imagination.
Many European vehicles are now fitted with Xenon headlights, it’s unclear whether the Falcon will also feature such a headlight treatment. One thing that is clear though is that the vehicle pictured below has several objects protruding from the headlight assembly, suggesting ad-hoc headlight washers (which are required as ADR for Xenon/HID headlights). And is that a carbon-fibre spoiler fitted to the vehicle pictured? You betch’ya. Will it make it to production? Probably not.

Insiders have informed us that the mold featured in the following photo is not representative of the tail-lights. Cladding has been employed to emboss the tail-light surrounding in a bid to throw off onlookers.
The front end close up shot suggests a new fog light arrangement and bonnet contours. The vehicle photographed is probably an XR6 Turbo variant. Our spy photographer has suggested that it was towing a trailer filled with cement and other heavy objects and had a noise reminiscent of the current turbocharged Falcon lineup.

And finally, the following picture clearly shows the outline of the window. It’s unclear why Ford went to such extremes to pad the C-pillar windows. This photo shots that nothing all too interesting is going on behind there. It is encouraging to see that the old AU rear door frame is gone. There were many complaints about the lack of ease getting in and out of Falcons from the AU – BF, this new door frame will hopefully rectify the issue.
One thing’s for certain, Ford is working hard to ready the Falcon for sale next year. As further news or photos come to hand, you will see them first at CarAdvice.

Hi Andrew ,I would be thinking that the Phase 5 will happen finally. It seems our new Ford boss a fellow Tasmanian Rod Barrett is committed to reviving the HO badge but only to a worthy contender. I would imagine to be remembered for bringing such an iconic badge back finally would be a great feeling of accomplishment at your job,just like David Flint was to FPV he will always be remembered as the man that bought back the real GT again.
The challenges they note in the article is the engineers having a HO before 2010 is unlikely as they are having problems meeting power targets for the Orion’s new upgrade cause of the long stroke configuration of the 5.4 litre,so to look at getting the grunt one would expect in the limited amount of Ho’s to be released could only be achieved from forced induction not normally aspirated.Question is what form? Blown or Turbo. However Ford in the US is preparing to wholesale a new all alloy 5.0 litre supercharged for the 2008 XF Jag that is meant to put out around 350 kws.Only after the intro of the new 5.0 litre which will meet Euro IV standards that a Ho is feasible. As mentioned before I have been told by a source that FPV are currently trying a V10 now in Australia in a mule for the HO in 2010. ” Don’t expect the HO to be V8 “were their words.
So who knows,I guess we wait but I bet people are already wanting to put deposits down for the new Phase 5.

They may if only 100 are being released do some sort of tender on them cause there will be 10 times more people will want one than will ever be released. One thing is for sure I doubt you will get any free mats thrown in ?
The pic they have of it in Motor I must say needs some improving ,they have a fake shaker scoop on the bonnet that needs to be removed and the stripes along the middle of the doors as they once had look silly .
Re your thoughts on a limited Ed for the I6 that’s leaving ,I thought that’s what they have just done on the new F6 R Spec? Or do you mean in an Orion ?

I would say a definitely some kind of hoora like TE 50 and TS 50 last of the Windsor’s . From memory they gave them and extra 30 kws over the standard XR8 at the time,you will correct me if I am wrong.
Unbelievable how well those things have kept their value too.
So if they are still calling them Phoons in the Orions I would think the last of the I6 will go out with a big bang ,not literally either.You would think that will be it for the Phoon then they will get a name change for the next V6 rocket that will come out.
Oh and Motor why would you put 351 in the decal of the 2010 GTHO ? I don’t think it will be a 5.8 litre as they were in the past!
you are right they did an XR8 Rebel at the end of the AU’s which sported a 220kw version and might i say a pretty good looking body kit with added grey hightlights.

Almost bought the TS50 until we heard the BAGT was getting released ,seemed at the time all the TE and TS 50 owners disapproved of the new GT cause I guess it had such a big face lift and an improvement in power to boot.Now it seems they have stored the TS & TEs away ,yet another collectable I guess .Is nice to see them on the road still they still have great road presence I think for the age of the car. Will be worth more than the BA & BF GTs in years to come I think !
The GT may have 330+Kw. However; all an HSV owner has todo is send his car to Walkinshaw Performance where they will bolt on a supercharger which has the potential to push power upto around 400Kw and still retain factory warranty [as WP and HSV are related]
Ford owners could go to Herrod Motorsport for more power but that would void the factory warranty.
He could even go to can go toStarr Performance;
or better yet CAPA where they will be more than happy to give him up to 500Kw – Afterall they built a 1000Kw Holden Ute. If he added a PWR intercooler he would get even more power.
However; it doesnt really matter because until NT remove their speed limits there’s nowehere in Australia where you can use the power be it 300Kw-500Kw. Which is why Holden and Ford engineered their V8s to use the majority of their power and be most fuel efficient at cruising speeds of around 80-120Km/h.. as a result the 260Kw from both cars is about right.
To utilise the 300Kw-400Kw+ you would have to be travelling at well over 220Km’h which would reduce your fuel efficiency.. and at around $1.40 per litre [for premium] that can become an expensive exercise
missile the only thing missing since tickford changed is the model they would tickle like a tickford ghia etc. its a totally different set up now.
tell you what it would be nice to see a turbo fairmont and i think we will by what ive read. however i doubt the fairmont luxury image would ever be born in the FPV stables

I am led to Believe that V airlines is a seperate entitiy to Virgin Blue, but it is owned by richard Branson, They will be flying B777-300 and wierd european planes. Flying to Los Angeles and Canada at first starting from Brisbane Sydney and melbourne. I believe they start flying in July 2008
Vigin Blue planes are better looking than V-Australia planes because of the panting on the front. At least Virgin Blue shows the flag other than the rego nubers. Ford is good.

No turns out i was fooled, My mate knows the Dealer principle and we had a closer look, this car is a special Ford LTD with GT Falcon go fast bits and apparently a Harrop Engineered 5.4L V8, and…….A Supercharger, 20 inch wheels 2 DVD screens in the rear seats, a center DVD player.QUAD EXHAUSTS, VERY NICE CAR

syko4d, the 5.4 isn’t an F-150 motor, thats what some Holdenwoo fans use as an excuse. The 5.4 used in the F-150 is a SOHC when the falcon V8 is DOHC. So any Holdenwoo fan that says the Boss V8 is an F-Series motor, tell them to get F**Ked!
A freind of mine wanted to check my BA XR 6 out and was also thinkin of getting a commodore or falcon. I said to her look I give holdens hottest six cylinder a run and I show you how much quicker they are than a commodore. Cruising in the city and I made my first run with a VE SV 6. By the time I got it into 3rd gear the commodore was in my rear view mirror. She was in the car with me and said those commodres are so slow and I rather buy a Ford. I converted a holden person into a Ford person last night by puttin my BA XR6 up against a VE SV6. I dragged the arse of the commodore and it still shows that ford are still killing holden in performance after 50 years. So she gonna get a XR 6 this weekend. FORD DOMAINATE HOLDENS(oldhens)FOREVER. Cant wait for the new 2008 falcon cause its gonna be the best car in this country
hey the ford 6 is alot quciker then the holden, but look at our v8 is kills fords v8. so dont come out and say ford are better just because ure 6 is faster. and plus ford wont be having those 6s in 2010 because they getting rid of them for a cheaper 6 like the holden v6. so BK dont say ford dominate holdens because really they dont. they both have their weakneses
Goog, When the current Ford V8 came out, it was faster than the engines in the Holdens. BTW, Holden just uses Chevrolet crate motors from overseas, when Ford has a plant in Australia and Ford are comming out with a 320kw GT and a 300kw F6.
yeah i get your point but still it is a holden and our v8 we use is quicker and ur 6 is quicker.. thats all im saying.. and holdens ve gts series 2 will have around 330kw+. and i heard holden are thinking of making a new torana turboed
Goog, you just wait and see what ford does, i have been watching with keen interest….. im pretty caetain that ford v8’s will break the 330kw figure… and quicker 6’s too. the orion will stop at nothing to conquer the commodore!
Torana is all hearsay, but i hope they build it i think it will be an exciting product.
All i can say is this, no one builds a better value for money performance car than the australian car market…. but if you want something that really peforms, go euro!
Goog, did you hear about the Orion F6 6 secconds faster than the current one? By the sound of that, it would still be faster than the HSV if they do make it 330kw.
Ford have insiders that already know about what HSV are up to and Ford have enough time to respond with more power in the Orion models in may 2008. Sure HSV has a 7.0L, but that’s just a limited edition GTS-R.bbish… Ford can use a V10 for a GT-HO phase 5 that can better 400kw.
and we could use the 7litre and add more power towards that.. even a little supercharger.. but yeah the new ford will go alright, but maybe not as good as what everyone is hearing

Chevrolet have just unveiled a 6.2 Litre Twin Supercharged Pushrod V8 which when in moderate form can produce 485Kw. By moderate I mean it’s been down-graded for optimum efficiency.. so imagine what it could do with a bit of tweaking by HSV or even CAPA..[600Kw?]. as it will more than likely replace the current 6.0 Litre V8 Holden use
Then when the new TT-36 Torana is released it will have the next generation V6; as will the commodore. The new V6 is expected to produce 220Kw in standard form Therefore; in the Twin-Turbo Torana it should break the 300Kw mark
Oh and HSV are planning a Bang for your buck project – to sit below the clubbie which will use a Small Block Northstar V8.. an engine that produces approx 260Kw in standard form so with a bit of work by HSV there’s yet another 300Kw+ car

At a GM board meeting early next year Bob Lutz is expected to give the go-ahead to the new Torana – which will also become the 2012 Pontiac G6.. at the same meeting it’s also expected that the Ute will become the Pontiac G8-ST [Sports Truck].
It’s one of the reasons so many GM execs [including Lutz] have visited the Elizabeth plant in recent months – for a review of GMs RWD projects which includes the Torana
Yeah, It has a supercharger that’s still something ford can do to a V8 or a V10. Hopefully both XR8 & SS are over the 300kw some time next year.
