The cops just look at civilians as targets to be punished. The way they see it. If your on their road. Then they have the right to fine you for everything they can think of. They target everyone. If a cop follows you, searches your car and finds nothing to fine you over then they don't leave satisfied. Having the excuse to fine you by saying they witnessed you touch your mobile phone makes filling there quota nice and easy. They can then appear to there boss to be doing something. They can raise money and statistics saying that there are lots of offences in their area so they will get more funding and new better cars to sit there fat lazy asses in.
We pay enough tax in this country with out being fined another $300 for touching our mobile phones. So much for this illusion of being free.. How about helping people in our community. Public servants should serve the public with things other that fines.

All this because you can’t use your phone and drive and you think it’s not fair that the cops can? Sad. Bottom line people, If you get caught breaking the law then grow up and accept some responsibility. And if you look like or drive a car that makes you look like a hoon, druggie, criminal or just another stupid asshole, then be expected to be treated like one, because everybody else is thinking it.

I think our rights are something to defend.

Would you rather wait for a "situation" to happen before you're encouraged to defend your rights?

Reasonable points.

But the primary argument for banning mobile phone use while driving (to my knowledge) is that it is a distraction and great cause of accidents.

Is this to say that the Police possess greater driving skills that make them immune to the same dangers from mobile use while driving?

Given the situation is entirely plausible that the police officer pictured on his mobile phone IS in fact calling the parents to inform them that their child just died in a car accident, in doing so, might the police officer also end up in a car accident from use of his mobile?

If no, then please explain why police possess such amazing driving skills and why the public doesn't have access to them and:

If yes, police are wayyyy underpaid to be risking their lives like this.

Is the Government not hypocritical in forcing "safety" measures on civilians while Police have the luxury of living outside those safety measures?

that cops like to bust your chops for fun?

This is an excellent example of how ridiculous cops are. Are they there to enforce the law for their amusement?

seriously, wtf. either give out the fine, or not.

how sadcase must it be that this cop actually turned up at 4 to check out your story, must have no life.

er ... no.

Cops aren't allowed to use their sirens/lights whenever they feel like it, nor can they run lights/speed unless it was an emergency (in which case, their siren/lights would be on).

I think you're mistaking cops for God, they are accountable for what they do under the law, just like everyone else.

I remember back when I was on my L's a cop car on the lane to my left cut right in front of me without using indicator lights and almost caused me to rear-end him. His siren/lights weren't on either.

Seriously, I don't think anyone takes aussie cops seriously and gives them a "noble" perception. The only people that do are married to one.
