2009 Audi A4 gets new TFSI engine

Audi has added a new direct-injection engine to its popular A4 range, with the 2.0 TFSI powerplant going into both the sedan and the Avant wagon.

The brand’s latest-generation Audi A4 2.0 TFSI is already proving popular in manual guise thanks, Audi says, to its winning combination of stylish design and strong, efficient performance.

Joining this quattro manual variant is a brand new combination of quattro and seven-speed S tronic for the A4 sedan, priced at $73,900 and A4 Avant at $76,730, with the sporty 2.0 TFSI engine boasting 155kW of power and 350Nm of torque.

Audi claims the A4 comes with an excellent pedigree and is bulging with top-of-the line options, previously found only on much higher-end models.

These features include the intuitive MMI control system, new Audi drive select, Lane Assist, Side Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Audi says all A4 versions with the advanced direct-injection 2.0 TFSI engine are dynamic and precise to drive and boast class-leading fuel consumption and the lowest CO2 emissions.

This commitment to maximising performance, while progressively lowering consumption and emissions is a key focus area for Audi, and has been part of the brand’s product strategy for almost 30 years.

A specialist jury of 65 respected auto journalists from 32 countries has voted Audi’s 2.0 TFSI engine the best-in-class (1.8 – 2.0 category) at the International Engine of the Year awards, for the fourth consecutive year.

Citing the 2.0 TFSI engine’s ‘benchmark for efficiency and performance in its category’, the jury also announced that the four-cylinder engine was ‘a great example of an engine that’s so flexible it can deliver the right solution for a variety of different vehicles’, hence its gold-medal performance.

This newly developed engine operates with the innovative Audi Valvelift System (AVS), which varies the lift of the exhaust valves and provides better performance with greater fuel economy.

The 2.0 TFSI quattro also features an excellent level of standard equipment including 17-inch alloys, Xenon Plus headlights with LED daytime running lights, electric driver and front passenger seat with lumbar support, multifunction sports steering wheel, Bluetooth mobile phone preparation, Advanced Key with keyless entry and start and a Symphony sound system with 6-disc CD player with MMI operating logic and a 6.5-inch colo
