Toyota C-HR concept crossover revealed

The Toyota C-HR concept crossover model has been revealed ahead of its global debut at the 2014 Paris motor show in early October.

The new high-riding concept hatchback - which is expected to presage a new compact SUV from the Japanese brand - had been teased earlier in September, but two new images uploaded to the internet show the funky three-door baby SUV in all its glory.

The Toyota CH-R takes the Japanese company's styling language to a different level, with its broad psychedelic headlights, bold bumper bar design with inset daytime running lights and prominent Toyota badge.

The rear of the car features oversized tail-lights which cup the rear fenders of the car, while the roofline is swept more steeply than most coupes.

No concrete details have been made public about the C-HR concept's powertrain, though the company has stated it will offer "an agile, engaging driving experience and a Hybrid powertrain".

CarAdvice's spies previously spotted a Corolla hatchback with lifted suspension that was said to be a mule of a potential future compact SUV to sit below the RAV4. A production model - which is set for a 2016 or 2017 debut, according to reports - will give Toyota a rival to the likes of the Nissan Juke, Ford EcoSport, Holden Trax, Skoda Yeti, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur.

As we've previously reported, the brand is desperate to have a vehicle in the sub-compact SUV segment, with a Toyota Australia representative telling CarAdvice that "it's a market for all players", and that Toyota is "interested in any market that is growing".

Stay tuned for more on the Toyota C-HR concept.
