2015 Ford Falcon specifications detailed : NEW PICS ADDED
The 2015 Ford Falcon will get a number of equipment upgrades beyond the already confirmed SYNC2 multimedia system when it arrives in mid-November this year.
Ford’s final iteration of one the oldest nameplates in its arsenal — the name will be retired with the current-generation car when the company’s Australian factories close in October 2016 — will pick up a pretty impressive list of standard equipment to go with its new looks but unchanged mechanicals.
The move appears to reposition the Falcon a smidgen further upmarket than the current FG II, in what could be construed as a similar move to Holden and its richly-equipped VF Commodore introduced last year. While the cabin design itself is not expected to change much, the extra gear is a sweetener.
All models including the base fleet-friendly Falcon sedan and ute (it appears the XT moniker has been dropped), XR6 and XR6 Turbo sedan and ute, and G6E, G6E Turbo and XR8 sedans now get standard features including:
- SYNC2 Emergency Assistance
- SYNC2 with eight-inch integrated colour touchscreen
- Australian-specific voice control system developed in partnership with Nuance
- Digital Radio (DAB+)
- Dual antenna system
- WiFi hot spot
- New 16-inch, 18-inch or 19-inch alloy-wheel designs
All sedan models in addition get both front and rear parking sensors while the base model gets a reverse-view camera with fixed and active overlays. The G6E and XR models also get rain-sensing wipers, while various models get new trim finishes.
The Falcon sedan remains the only locally built large car available with four-, six- and eight-cylinder powertrains, not to mention a turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine and EcoLPi six-cylinder gas engine. The engines have not been changed for the FG X, just as expected.
Local pricing won't be revealed for a few more weeks yet, but don’t be surprised if Ford trims them back to better reflect the actual showroom prices. XR8 information has also been withheld for now, expect to see that unveiled in Melbourne on October 3.
