Brabrus B63 S – Mercedes 63 AMG

June 7, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

Have you ever wondered if Mercedes Benz AMG owners are into car modification? Surely given that AMG have already had their way with a standard Mercedes, the power levels are sufficient?

AMG maybe the Mercedes-Benz in house tuners (as STi is to Subaru, M is to BMW, , but Brabus are the true passionate Mercedes lovers, the ones that extract every little bit of potential from the already powerful AMG models.

Brabus recently announced their B63 S engine tuning kit for all Mercedes 63 AMG owners (6.2-litre V8). Power is lifted to an extraordinary 404 kW (from 378kW) and torque reaches 650 Nm (from 630Nm).

For an CLS 63 AMG owner the tuning pack would cut the 0-100 time from 4.5 seconds to 4.3 seconds (and increase top speed to 330 km/h). In order to achieve the extra power, the cars engine management system as well as exhaust, air intake are all changed. However, the car still meets EURO IV emissions limits!

Brabus tuned Mercs are a rare sight in Australia, so next time you see one, show some respect!

That statement could not be any truer !!

I was in my highly sophisticated AWD, AWS, Twin Turbo, Twin Intercooled, Quad Cam piece of Japanese machinery. I usually have no trouble with LS1/2’s, M3’s and nearly every Jap car.

I was traveling on a long open highway cruising at 100kmph when a cute little C-Class wanted to play ball.

At first I think to myself you got to be kidding me right? These C180’s are a joke thinking I could easily clean him up.

As we were both beside each other and lined up ready to go I dropped back into 4th and this Mercedes kept pulling away and in no time I had maxed out to 180km/h (damn Jap speed restrictions!)

All I could see was it’s rear badges and it read “C55″ and some cocky prestige number plates.

Turns out I got the number plates of the guy who destroyed me and asked around some friends if they had any idea if they knew him or someone that did.

I was in luck and a mate told me he knows him personally and that there is a $90,000 BRABUS engine in there, a heavily molested Supercharged 5.5L V8, 0-100km in the very low 4 second mark !!!

Yes I know what your thinking, HOLY SHIT!! it all made sense, I have never seen a C-Class pull so hard in my life.

Well done to him, I have much respect for these cars and have sped up the modifications being performed to my car so I can meet him again for round 2!!

      End of War Story.

Pity , around the corners they are still the mushy Mercedes and whats the point of all that power when really it can’t put it all down?

Episode 4, Season 9 Top Gear (watch for yourself), the one reviewed in that episode is the coupe with 720hp and its just terrible in terms of handling.

All out power is only so much good..

And Sharif umm what can I say to you (tries hard not to laugh) , but end of War Story? play ball? Car enthusiasm is one thing, but keep it on the track .. maybe next time follow the rules that you learnt in your written test (for a driving license) which goes something liek ” when a car is overtaking, continue on with your current speed and not speed up” :P
