CarAdvice catches train surfer

May 11, 2009 by Paul Maric

Quiet please, quiet please.

And the winner of this year’s moron of the year award goes to…

THE IMBECILE PICTURED BELOW!

CarAdvice Catches Train SurferPhoto by John Marx

You can imagine how surprised CarAdvice’s Paul Maric was when heading home on Friday night after a road test. While we stand on a train overpass a train pulls in full of punters from the latest AFL match at Etihad Stadium – don’t ask us which match it was, we don’t follow AFL.

Attached to the back of the train that pulls in is a brainless idiot who has decided it’s a great place to ride. Despite several attempts by us yelling at him to get off, he didn’t want to.

So, we decided to get a photo of him in all his glory, along with a video.

Video by John Marx

The question is, what on earth is Connex doing at their stations to miss a youth riding the back of a train. It took the train to get to the Camberwell train station before anyone noticed him. The train then left the station with him still attached to it, and at that point we reported him to the police.

We can’t even begin to go through the motions of how many things could have possibly gone wrong in this situation, it simply staggers the mind.

What do you think, who’s ultimately responsible for morons like this who risk life to evade fares?

I am inclined to say the idiots that do this sort of sh*t. The train companies can really only do so much, in the end, its free will of people and their mental capacity, or lack there of, to make the decision to do such dumb things.

Similar goes for people claiming to do illegal things after playing games such as Grand Theft Auto, in the end, it’s their own doing, not the games creator.

I know its NOT cheap to ride on public-transport and that standing/siting room is @ premium after sporting events, but THAT is origonal way of travel.

Roof surfing is old news, that is GOLD!!

Tellya what, i think now you have shown that it has started and it will become a “copycat” issue, mark my words on that

      Good photo anyway!

      Cheers

spare a thought for the train drivers. my understanding is that the poor buggers see so many people getting killed on the tracks from suicide or skylarking that they can end up having having “issues” long term

      Pious,

      Couldn’t agree more.

I live inner city Brisbane and the amount of night clubers on a friday/saturday night drug/alcohol consumed playing chicken with the traffic shocks me.
The idiot pedestrian will feel the pain not the vehicle that strikes them meanwhile the poor driver suffers mental trauma if they hit and kill somebody.

I have a feeling this person isnt trying to “evade” fares. I think trying to be “cool” is a more accurate representation.

Good work Paul on catching the bloke in the act.

Unfortunately he will only qualify for an honourable mention in the Darwin awards.
I do believe a recipient must kill them selves before they contribute to the gene pool before they qualify for the award.
Thankfully this knuckle head has not left a mess for some poor Conex employee to clean up…this time.
If he does end up killing him self lets hope he doesn’t make any contribution to the future human gene pool beforehand!

      Certainly not fare evasion.

If you have ever tried to catch a train after a game you would know it would be more so frustration of not getting a seat coupled with alcohol.

Dont know about down south, but here in QLD public transport is free on game days be it cricket or footy.
Even free for concerts too i think/hope it is/was.

Imagine the fright the guard might get if he was to pop the blind up to check the weather

Ill give him one thing though apart from being stupid, he has done bloody well to hold on with a mere 4 inches to rest his heels.
Its bad enough to hold on when you are inside, and would have been harder since he would have likely been intoxicated

      @Yanzo

Parkour traceurs (people who do Parkour) are usually highly trained in their discipline; hardly compare this to riding on the back of a train.

There is extreme and there is idiotic.

And good spot CA, saw this on TV this morning.

Those rail lines look really wide in Melbourne compared to brissy. At least Brisbane’s new trains [160/260] were designed with this in mind and are curved right along the front to stop this happening. I really hope that idiot doesnt get hurt though because most likely he would sue connex and win
