Foton Tunland pricing and specifications: Single-cab models added

The new Foton Tunland 4x2 single-cab ute is due to arrive on sale in Australia by mid-September, priced at $21,990 driveaway.

The Tunland single-cab was dropped as part of a range restructure by the Chinese brand's new local distributors, Ateco Automotive, earlier this year. But now the single-cab is back, in 4x2 and 4x4 guises - the latter attracting a price tag of $24,990 driveway. Both are $3000 cheaper than when they were sold by previous distributor, FAA Automotive.

Dual-cab models remain priced at $26,990 for the 4x2 and $29,990 for the 4x4.

All Tunland models come powered by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel Cummins engine. The single-cab 4x4 and both dual-cab variants have 120kW of power and 360Nm of torque. The single-cab 4x2 model is detuned to 96kW and 280Nm, but sees an improvement to its fuel-use rating: 8.0 litres per 100 kilometres versus 8.3L/100km for the rest of the models in the range.

While the higher engine tune variants feature a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox, the cheapest version gets a Tangshan five-speed 'box. The base ute misses out on a limited slip differential, which is standard on all other variants.

Both the single- and dual-cab 4x2 models feature a 1015-kilogram payload, just 10kg less than the dual-cab versions. All Tunland utes are rated to tow 750 kilograms unbraked and up to 2500kg braked.

Features for the entry-level single-cab models include power side mirrors, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio controls, four-speaker stereo with Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and USB and auxiliary inputs. These models ride on 16-inch steel wheels.

The Tunland dual-cab 4x2 adds 16-inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights and rear parking sensors but loses cruise control. The top-end 4x4 dual-cab has 17-inch alloys, a tray liner, tyre pressure monitoring system and leather upholstery.

Tunland models feature anti-lock brakes and dual front airbags, but none have side airbag protection, nor potentially life-saving electronic stability control. The Tunland dual-cab has a three-star ANCAP crash test safety rating.

The Foton Tunland is covered by a three-year/100,000km warranty and three years of roadside assistance.
