Full Throttle: Day 13
Disappointed? Yes. Upset? You betcha. Annoyed? More than slightly. Thirteen is an unlucky number, isn't it? Today was the day we handed back the keys to the TechArt Porsche GTsport and GTstreetRS.
But not before a few good mashings of the throttle. Yesterday saw us powersliding across a 100m wide runway, a day I don’t think we’ll forget for a long time. Today, however was a bit more sedate. 250km/h down the autobahn.
We tried for a top speed run, however you have to be very careful with traffic. Sure, the GTstreetRS might have carbon ceramic brakes which never, ever, ever fade, but other motorists are a bit more unpredictable. Erring on the side of caution, then, is also erring on the side of safety.
But what was staggering was the acceleration even at high speed. From 100-200km/h you would swear that someone has wedged a Saturn V rocket up its backside. There’s a constant stomach-compressing shove, and the sound of air being pushed through the engine, like twin TGV trains passing you on each side.
You can’t help but smile, when in third gear, you put your foot down and the horizon is delivered to your windscreen in an ethereal rush.
The GTsport also proved that its chassis was so balanced, the Nurburgring was its natural habitat. A quick run up and down a windy mountain road showed its excellent steering feel as well.
We farewelled the two dream TechArts with much sighing and groaning, did some washing and headed off to Stetton, handing back the M5, too.
Tomorrow should also be a good day. Why? Waiting for us in Stetton is a Ferrari. But not just any garden variety F430. It’s the Scuderia 16M convertible. But that’s still not good enough for Full Throttle.
Therefore, we’re off to Novitec, the world famous Ferrari tuners. The company has fitted this beast with twin superchargers. Oh yes, it’s going to be a good day.
