Saab denies Fiat take over plans
May 6, 2009 by Matt Brogan
Saab has strongly denied rumours it is in talks with Fiat over possible takeover plans.
A spokesman from the Swedish brand, Eric Geers, confirmed yesterday that Fiat was not one of the ten potential buyers currently in negotiations with the ailing manufacturer.
“We now have 10 very serious interested parties which have visited us in Trollhattan,” Mr Geers said. “What will happen now … we will narrow these down, and we are counting on a close (of a deal) in June, or the beginning of summer.”
Saab won more time to restructure in early April when a Swedish court extended the period in which the company is protected from creditors.
GM has said it plans to cut ties to Saab by the end of the year.

Someone just put this mangy Swedish dog out of its misery. Take it out behind a closed Pontiac dealership and shoot it.
notice how there’s not many comments on this one. it’s cause no one cares about saab
If any corporation could nurture the crumbling remains of Saab I believe it would be Fiat. With such niche brands under its belt like Alfa Romeo and Lancia I think they would be able to let Saab do there own thing, and be successful.
Whatever happens I’d rather see Saab churning out new and modern products for many years to come! The Saab 9-3 with an interior pinched from an Audi would be a dream i reckon !
10 seriously interested parties ? Hahahahahahahahahahaha
There aren’t 10 viable automakers left in the entire world.
I love SAAB, there i said it. Given their designs might be abit old but i still love them. I hope that they do survivie and that their new owners do a good job, personally i think that it is a shame Fiat isnt one of the potential buyers of SAAB becuase they could do with a design update…
Car Advice, it isnt Trollhattan it is Trollhättan… Notice the ä after the h ;p
No love loss for Saab from you lot downunder then. GM made little investment in Saab and as a result they have struggled. I recently drove a 1.9TDi 93 and I can say I was impressed enough to say I might rather be in this than an A4 mostly due to the overwhelming numbers of the latter on our roads. The build quality was OK the engine (same as a Vectra) performance was excellent only the 6 speed Auto box let the fuel economy down but thats expected for a slush box.
Saab will no doubt survive and flourish, hopefully cutting ties with markets that don’t like them!! Then and only then will they be missed.
If FIAT does not take over SAAB, it will die.
Thinking the same applies to Opel.
Koinessssseg has NFI in being a world auto player, its all about numbers.
“What where they thinking” [tm.TopGear AUS.]
