Toyota Camry V6 unveiled, but won’t become Australia’s 2015 Aurion
An overhauled Russian-market Toyota Camry has been unveiled at the Moscow motor show, replacing the V6-engined model that previously looked near-identical to the Toyota Aurion sold here.
However the new Russian Camry marks a departure from the Australian Aurion, with Toyota Australia product public relations manager Steve Coughlan confirming the sedan revealed overnight was not representative of the model that would be built and sold on our shores.
“There are no plans to adopt any of the exterior design elements exhibited on the Russian vehicle for our local range,” Coughlan said.
“We will announce details regarding local Camry and Aurion upgrades next year.”
A heavily revised Camry was unveiled at April’s New York auto show. At the time, Toyota Australia confirmed the overhauled exterior would be adopted locally, but said the major interior changes and newly developed safety systems would not be introduced to our market.
Toyota Australia has released no additional information about the refreshed Aurion, though it’s expected to launch around the same time as the updated Camry sometime next year.
Compared with the Aurion and Russian-market Camry, the updated model gets an overhauled front-end design with revised headlights integrated into a slimmer grille, a more upright front bonnet edge, an expansive lower air intake with horizontal slats and vertical front-side intakes pushed to the corners of the bumper.
Changes are more subtle at the rear, where a thinner horizontal chrome boot grab liner now extends into the tail-lights, while the reshaped bumper has a new lower-edge design with integrated red reflectors.
The cabin is refreshed with a new three-spoke steering wheel, a new instrument cluster with a central 4.2-inch TFT display, and a revised centre stack with newly arranged controls infotainment and climate controls.
The Russian-market model will be available with a wireless mobile charging pad, auto high beam and heated rear seats.
In Russia, the Camry is available with the choice of 2.0- and 2.5-litre four-cylinder and 3.5-litre V6 petrol engines.
Australia’s Aurion will continue to be powered exclusively by the V6 when it launches next year.
