I got a 2007 Laguna on runout for $35k. We were also considering the Accord Euro and Mazda6. For price/feature comparisons, the Japanese cars could not compete. The Laguna was also the nicest to drive, by far.

The new Laguna will probably flop if it is priced in the mid $40's. If I had that kind of budget, I'd probably be looking a Passat.

Poor Laguna, it's a great vehicle with no niche in this country.

Rick,

Renault Laguna out next month June 2008.
Prices start from $41000 + on roads - a little over priced to compete with the Mondeo and Mazda 6.
The Laguna is a larger size car than the Megane and Mazda 3 so not really in that league. You also can't put it up against a BMW and Audi.
Overall I can't see the Laguna taking off here which will be a shame - another flop for Renault.

Dave,

Evan Mazda 3 diesel manual is over $30,000 ...well over. As is Ford Focus Diesel. Renault Megane diesel competes with these cars and beats them on price, features and drivability.
Laguna will not be under $40,000 and if marketed correctly it sould compete well againt 320D BMW and Audi A4 TDI if quality is as good as they are predicting from Europe.

The two Laguna's I would like to see in Australia are the 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel (dCi) and the 127 kW 2.0-litre Petrol (price around mid thirties) followed by the Wagon at a later date. Renault as now got to compete with the new Ford’s Mondeo (priced in the mid thirties) and also the best selling family car the Mazda 6.
