A rugged new Volkswagen Golf Alltrack wagon that hasn’t even been revealed yet is confirmed to be coming to Australia.

CarAdvice has previously reported that the new, off-road-styled Golf Alltrack wagon was under consideration, but at this week’s launch of the new Polo light car, Volkswagen Australia managing director John White confirmed the vehicle will be sold in Australia.

“Golf Alltrack – that’s still coming to us, near the end of the first half of next year,” he said.

Set to follow in the tyre tracks of the Passat Alltrack, the new Golf Alltrack – which could be revealed at the 2014 Paris motor show in October – will have a number of exterior and interior styling changes.

The outside is set to get the addition of underbody protection, wheel arch extensions, new alloy wheels and possibly adjustable suspension with a raised ride height. The interior will see less extreme adjustments, such as new trims.

Under the bonnet, the new Golf Alltrack wagon is likely to be offered solely with the same 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine as is seen in the regular Golf line. The four-cylinder unit currently produces 110kW of power and 320Nm of torque, though in the Alltrack it will power all four wheels rather than the front wheels only.

The new Golf Alltrack wagon is expected to be positioned at the top of the Golf wagon model line, which currently kicks off from $25,540 and tops out at $36,540. We’d expect the new model to come in just under $40,000.

Stay tuned for more on the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack wagon as it comes to hand.
