Honda Insight UK sales outstrip competition
April 30, 2009 by Matt Brogan
The all-new Honda Insight Hybrid has only been on sale in the United Kingdom since April 4, yet since that time, it has outsold its nearest competitor by some 15 per cent.
Honda has sold 229 of its Insight models in the UK so far this month as compared to Toyota which has sold 198 of its Prius models.
“The Insight is proving a hit with cost-savvy consumers looking for a cleaner car that’s more affordable,” said John Kingston, Honda UK’s Environment and Government Affairs Manager. “More and more people want a car that makes sound financial sense, especially in the current economic climate, and the Insight offers numerous running cost savings such as reduced road tax of £15 per year and great fuel economy.”
UK Insight customers will also benefit from being exempt from the London Congestion Charge.
Honda expects to sell around 7000 Insights in the UK this year.

Anti spam word 300kw ha ha lol! When are we getting the 300kw Insight?
I’ve driven the other hybrid and it’s complete rubbish, so from Honda you would have to expect this to be a lot better.
But really, both these companies should stop messing about with stop gap hybrids and roll out things like the FCX Clarity.
Wouldnt make a whole lot of business sense rolling out the FCX unless there was somewhere to fill it up. Stop gap is all we have for now.
Fairly surprised that Insight didnt outsell the tail end of the 2nd gen Prius by more, especially at the lower price point. Guess advertising is still to kick in.
If only governments would stop pandering to the oil barons, it’s only a lack of political will that’s preventing a hydrogen roll out… Why can’t hydrogen fillers be added to every existing servo??? This technology has been around, and conveniently ignored, for more than 30 years!
The point of the story is that this is an important milestone for Honda, considering that Prius has been synonimous to Hybrid in recent years. Even a small margin over Prius can create a large momentum.
Well Honda have a significantly better reputation than Toyota. If I were offered the option of similar cars between Honda and Toyota, I am not sure that I could find anything in the Toyota line-up that would even get a look-in to the equivalent Honda product.
Wow – 31 one cars than Toyota. Say it all really. Hybrids are a farce though. Prius is rates at 64mpg (4.4’s/100), well I just drove a Peugeot 1.6HDi diesel 800K’s yesterday much of it cruising at 140kmh returning 56mpg (5.0’s/100).
Petrol Hybrid’s conning the world.
hahaha knew you have something to say on this hun………..if the idiots out there that believe the whole global warming thing is attributed to man then those same idiots will think they’re saving the planet by driving a hybrid, manufacturer love it another market they can sell to. Worlds round, ya think they know ?
Hows the UK this morning my dear ?
Uk’s Wonderful BM. Bank holiday weekend for us, suns out so will the RIB this weekend. Just love life at the weekend especially after 800k’s driving yesterday.
