Honda Sat Nav to warn of high crime areas

By Matt Brogan |

Honda is set to introduce a new feature to its Satellite Navigation systems that will warn owners if they are entering or parking in high crime rate areas.

The new system, which is currently only slated for launch in Japan, reviews local police records and statistics to notify the driver accordingly of such undesirable locations.

More specifically, the computer will search police data banks for high theft areas and areas where vandalism is more prevalent.

The system then assigns a level of risk to a certain area based on how many and how recent the reports of crime have been which is displayed on the Sat Nav screen.

Honda plans to introduce the system within the next two years.
