Fiat 500 :: Almost 4000 city cars recalled over wiring defect
Almost 4000 Fiat 500 city cars have been recalled in Australia to correct a defect with the wiring in the vehicles’ dashboards.
The recall affects an estimated 3869 Fiat 500s produced between 2010 and 2014 – approximately three quarters of all 500s sold in Australia over that period.
The official recall notice published on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s website says that potential interference between the wiring under the dashboard and the steering column may cause the wiring to wear out over time.
It explains wear on the wire could affect the way the vehicles drive and may pose an accident risk to drivers and other road users.
Fiat Chrysler Australia says it has received no reports of the defect from local customers.
It will notify affected customers by registered mail and encourage them to take their vehicles to their local dealerships for an inspection and, if necessary, repair, which will be completed at no cost to owners.
