Porsche can be likened to wine. A complete amateur will simply say that all wines (of the same colour) tastes the same. Just like how an amateur will say porsches look the same. But if you actually know your stuff, you can see the slight differences, just like how critics can detect the subtle tastes in fine wine.

And like wine, porsches simply get better with age!

Alex, John was referring to the cayenne as his favourite example of how porsche of not designing something new, not that it’s his favourite car! But I do entirely agree with “anybody who’s favourite Porsche is the Cayenne should really have any authority on the matter.” HAHA!

John, the fact is that Porsche have a design language but unlike other brands, they don’t change it every generation. They look like Porsches. It’s a good thing. If you don’t like it that’s fine but I don’t think anybody who’s favourite Porsche is the Cayenne should really have any authority on the matter.
Their name isn’t suffering either. Where did you get that from? You can hardly compare Porsche to Toyotas. I think you’ll find that Toyota probably haven’t evolved more than Porsche in the last ten years. It’s not like they just update the bumpers and the lights every time the new model is out, there are always very significant mechanical changes.

What a silly statement from John. A car and a brand must retain its identity. A porsche is a porsche. A golf is a golf so is a falcon or a focus. Brand identification. Toyota? Are you serious or deranged? Can you sincerely tell me that a Corolla has an identity of any form? I don’t know how old are you but Corollas (or any Jap cars for that matter) never looked the same or evolved from their original designs. Simply because – they had no style. Toyota recognised this and all new vehicles are now designed either in France or the US – because Japanese creatives are origami designers. Now Toyota has recognised that one needs a front grill as an identity, just like Audi and Citroen and or Saab have been doing for decades. A brand has to be recognise for its DNA and design. The only way you can recognise a Toyota is by its boring, uneven and gutless appearances. The only invention Toyota came up with is the coin tray! Everything else was and is copied. And next time you buy a nice watch or a timeless piece of engineering to place around your wrist, you will be thankful for its beauty for years to come and guarantee you you’ll never buy a Swatch. Learn what branding is about. Learn what identity is about. Stone age? Get out of it, John.

The problem with that is evolution. Porsche has evolved about as much as humans have in the last 1000 years. Same old boring shape, same style, nothing new, nothing exciting. And to be honest are becoming as common as Toyota’s, even Toyota’s have evolved more in the last 10 years, and Porsches name is suffering due to this, Yes they make money , but so does Hoover, which doesn’t make them cool.

Personal favourite is the Porsche Cayenne, basically they took a drawing of a 911 and gave it to a 4 year and told him to draw big wheels on it. And the Porsche Cayenne was born.

I really like Porsche, but I just hate to see them not try anything new. I know allot of you will say “if it is not broken don’t fix it”. But if we had that view to everyday life we would still be in the stone ages.
