2015 Kia Sorento previewed in official sketches

Official design sketches of the 2015 Kia Sorento have been released, previewing its exterior styling for the first time.

The sketches are similar to unofficial renderings of the third-generation large SUV that surfaced online last week, though look to suggest the new model will feature an even bolder and more upright ‘tiger-nose’ grille, a more muscular stance, and more heavily swept styling than expected.

Kia says the new Sorento sports a lower roofline, higher beltline, more rounded rear haunches and deeply sculpted body surfaces. The new headlights connect to the grille and feature a subtle kink along their upper edges, while the new trapezoidal tail-lights will have a distinctive LED signature.

The 2015 Sorento was developed with input from Kia’s design studios in South Korea, Germany and the US.

It will be showcased in its home market at the end of August before making its public debut at October’s Paris motor show and arriving in Australian showrooms early next year.

The new Sorento will be larger than the 4.7-metre-long model it replaces. A longer wheelbase will create more second- and third-row space to help it better compete with rivals such as the Toyota Kluger and Nissan Pathfinder.

It is tipped to be offered with a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine and a 3.3-litre V6 petrol shared with the new Carnival people-mover, while a 2.4-litre direct-injection four-cylinder may also feature in the line-up.
