2015 Mercedes-Benz Vito revealed

The all-new Mercedes-Benz Vito will be larger, more versatile and more efficient than ever when it hits delivery rounds in October.

Revealed overnight, the mid-sized Vito is the light-commercial version of the V-Class people-mover that was unveiled in January.

The broad Mercedes-Benz Vito range includes panel van, Mixto crew-cab and Tourer minibus body styles, as well as two wheelbases, three lengths (each 140mm longer than before at 4895mm, 5140mm and 5370mm), two heights (1890mm and 1910mm), and two turbo diesel engines in five power ratings.

The panel van offers cargo volumes of 5.5m3, 6.0m3 and 6.6m3 and a maximum payload of 1369kg, while cargo volume of the Mixto ranges from 3.1m3 to 4.1m3.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito is also become the first vehicle in its class to offer three drive systems: front-wheel drive, the cheapest version intended for carrying light loads; rear-wheel drive, for heavy weights and high towing capacities; and all-wheel drive, when high traction is required, including in tough conditions and off surfaced roads.

A 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine powers the front-drive variants. It is available in 65kW 109 CDI and 84kW 111 CDI tunes.

Rear- and all-wheel-drive variants feature a 2.15-litre four-cylinder engine in 100kW 114 CDI, 120kW 116 CDI and Euro 6-compliant 140kW 119 BlueTEC power levels.

A six-speed manual transmission is standard across most variants, while a seven-speed automatic is optional in 114 CDI and 116 CDI and standard in 119 BlueTEC and four-wheel-drive variants.

The 116 CDI claims class-leading combined cycle fuel consumption of 5.7 litres per 100km. Mercedes says the new Vito is on average 20 per cent more efficient than the model it replaces.

The Vito claims to set new safety standards, with each variant featuring four-wheel disc brakes and adaptive electronic stability control. The panel van comes with seatbelt reminders for both front occupants, while Tourer models come standard with six airbags and are available with two additional airbags in the rear.

Other advanced safety and convenience features new to the Vito include Attention Assist, Crosswind Assist and a tyre pressure monitor, while optional features include assistance features for parking, blind spot monitoring and lane keeping.

Mercedes’ Intelligent Light System with LED indicators, daytime running lights and headlamps is also available for the first time.

Mercedes-Benz Australia says the Vito is on track to reach our shores alongside the V-Class in the second half of 2015. Specifications of the new range are still being finalised, though expect the line-up to closely mirror that of the current Vito family.
