More than 22,000 people have signed an online petition against Australian campervan rental company Wicked Campers over its crude tailgate slogans.

The petition lodged by Paula Orbea on Change.org calls on Wicked Campers to remove its famed tailgate slogans, which are renowned for pushing the limits of socially acceptable statements, following an incident in which her 11-year-old daughter pointed out a divisive and anything-but-funny slogan on a Mitsubishi camper in the Blue Mountains.

The van in question had painting on the rear door stating: “In every princess there is a little slut who wants to try it just once…”. Other such examples include “A wife: An attachment you screw on the bed to get the housework done”, and “I wouldn’t trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn’t die!”.

Orbea wrote that she feels “it is time to say enough – with calm, intelligent but firm resolve”, with the petition aimed at getting the company to remove “misogynistic and degrading slogans and imagery” from its vans.

“We must become Actionists (sic) – by looking at the action that is being performed, (regardless of gender), deciding whether it’s good for us as a species and calling it out if it isn’t; demand change.

“It is inconceivable that Wicked Campers choose to not only write the misogynistic ‘joke’ but also then publicise it through their moving, billboard vans. Disgustingly they have also promoted that ‘Fat girls are harder to kidnap’.

“Shame on them,” Orbea said.
