Audi TT model line expansion imminent

The Audi TT model range appears set to expand beyond a sports coupe and convertible.

Audi has already hinted at potential new spin-off models based on the TT and its flexible Volkswagen Group MQB underpinnings which enable the brand to carry over the vast majority of crucial parts between different models and offer more body styles as a result.

Indeed, the brand has already shown the Audi TT Offroad Concept (above) and the Audi Allroad Shooting Brake Concept (below) models, both of which draw upon the TT as their basis.

Audi product manager Marie Suzanne Ernst told CarAdvice the brand had nothing to confirm at this point in time, but hinted that it could be a matter of time before we see something new based on the TT.

“I can’t say anything to this at the moment,” Ernst said when asked about the potential for a plug-in hybrid e-tron version of the TT coupe. “A lot of things make sense [for the TT line].

“The TT [coupe] doesn’t have a lot of space. We’ll see if it’s coming in the future,” she said of a TT e-tron.

When asked about potential larger versions of the TT that could better accommodate the complex plug-in hybrid drivetrain, Ernst gave a strong indication that something was in the works.

“We have already seen the TT concept, so maybe there’s something coming up,” she said.

However, Ernst wouldn’t be drawn on whether the car could possibly keep the TT name despite that model designation having only ever been associated with the sports car.
