The Citroen DS 6WR looks set to be as stylistically interesting inside as it is out, with the French marque releasing the first interior images of its premium brand’s first-ever SUV.
With its Wild Rubis-inspired exterior unveiled prior to the model’s official 2014 Beijing auto show debut last April (pictured bottom), the two Citroen DS 6WR interior shots reveal a sharply designed cabin clearly aimed at appealing to luxury buyers.
Highlighted by a tan and grey two-tone theme and leather upholstered seats, the DS 6WR’s interior also features aluminium trim accents on the doors, steering wheel, centre console and air vent surrounds as well as red ambient lighting.
Based on the DS5 hatchback and measuring 4.55 metres long, the Citroen DS 6WR crossover – the “WR” standing for “Wild and Refined” and denoting the model’s size and range position – is powered by a choice of either a 118kW e-THP 160 engine or a 147kW THP 200 unit with both teamed to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Designed in Paris but manufactured in China by Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile (DPCA), the Citroen DS 6WR is due to launch in the world’s largest car market in September.
DPCA has also recently announced plans to build its fourth Chinese production plant. To be based in Chengdu in Sichuan province, the new plant is due to begin its dedicated production of SUVs and MPVs in 2016, targeting 300,000 vehicles a year.
Though the 6WR is expected to remain exclusive to China, DS brand CEO Yves Bonnefont said: “As DS sets out to become a premium brand on a worldwide scale, the results obtained in two years in China … encourage us in the pursuit of our business offensive.”
DPCA says its 2014 full-year sales objective is to exceed 650,000 vehicles in China, with its 2020 target being 1.5 million.
