Toyota Supra Update
May 29, 2007 by Alborz Fallah
We previously talked about the new Toyota Supra and begged Toyota to go ahead with production plans. We’ve gone on and one about how Toyota is lacking a sports car, the TRD Aurion will only go so far to help Toyota’s credibility, what they really need is this.
Winding Road reports Toyota have given the green light to make the new Supra in two versions. The mainstream version will be powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 (a better-tuned version of the same engine in the Lexus IS350). Power is expected to be around 250kW. There is no denying it, this will be the Nissan 350z killer.
Nonetheless, being Toyota, engineers have decided to use the technology from the Lexus GS450h (hybrid V6) for an upscale variant of the new Supra. This one is expected to put out around 300kWs!

Of course all details are just rumours at this stage, but we can only wish for all of it to be true. The car will still be some 3-4 years of from hitting Japanese showrooms – and another year on top of that before it comes to Australia, depending on if Toyota Australia give it the go ahead.

If public opinion counts, tell us, would this car change your perception of Toyota?

hahaha.just read my comment last year on this post…July 17th. Even you will laugh Wheelnut.
If this car ever makes it to the states there will be an onslaught of people in line to buy it. There are tons of people like me who have been waiting for a new celica supra
I will but this car if they redo the front some I dont like the nose.
Actually who ever said this is the new Supra should be shot, This is just another car said to replace the supra. There are rumours of apparently designing a New Supra, which ain’t this hunk of junk.
The comment of the Celica-Supra get a life, thats been done and dusted when they went on to the mark3 Supra and Celica was a seperate car all together, its over dude and you wouldn’t catch me in a celica, Its just a poormans sportscar
They need to get the recipe right if they want to trump Nissan as supercar king. The GT-R is a fantastic car and embarrassing a 911 Turbo in several tests. As a start, Toyota should stop putting Camry engines in their ’sports cars’ and go for performance-oriented motors.
Ugly as piss. The MkIV version of the Supra was the right idea in both structure and performance, but this, what is this? Toyota is not exactly a luxery car manufacturer, and this reminds me more of mercedes’ mclaren, not of a Supra, and the V6 Lexus IS350 engine is cute, and a hybrid version?!?!? Not sure how this wold be a Nissan killer, considering that the new Skyline GT-R is going to be released in the United States and it doesn’t look like a car you would find in your kid’s cereal box.
rear lights look like somethin off an rx7
i like the second gen supra way better than this one. this supra is so much diff from the second gen! the second gen is way way way better than the new one!
Interesting car. Not too sure how I feel about the front end yet, but the overall production will definitely grow on me. I think it is awesome that they are developing a hybrid sports car. Looking forward to seeing the final product in the coming months!
i love supras but what is this? have you gone mad. To continue a car it should resemble the car before it and not just for its performance. its nice but i wouldnt touch it i think its to much
wow, toyota are rocking it
this supra looks so sleak and powerful
toyota are really stepping it up
Toyota being #1 in the world passing up chevolet(not dissin chevy i have a 75 stingray) you would think that the genius’ at toyota could stick with the same I-6 Twin Turbo setup as nissan did with the GT-R(an amazing car by the way) but if it comes out with the V8 pushin 500plus hp i dont think anyone will complain considering anyone who knows anything about hp is that theres no other car on the streets that comes close to having over 1000plus hp than the MKIV and is street legal and if you do the research on parts for the nrew GT-R you will become very depressed in finding that there arent any due to nissans manufacturer making deals with large companies to not modify the best nissan ever produced? I mean come on new tires on the car voids the warranty? WTF why have a tuner car if you cant tune it? I would love to get a supra but if im going to put 20k into it and pay 30k id rather have the new one even though it looks ok but i agree thatr the MKIV is the king but toyota needs to do some redesigning of the body and perhaps the mototr. bottom line is toyota needs a Sports car not a hybrid.
i don’t think anyone is going to buy a car that looks like that. and as long as toyota don’t come up with the decision to do something stupid like put the speedo in the centre consle then it will be all good.
seriously speedo in the middle. what were they thinking.
lancia
Everyone should sit down and do this as an exercise. Write down a car manufacturer and the desireable drivers car from the same. The results comes down that Toyota does not have any real desireable drivers car. Its a sad state for the biggest car maker. Making washing machines on wheels is not quite exciting, their saviour is IS-F, but its a Lexus after all. Toyota, you are pathetic.
its not supposed to be a supra! its the next generation of the so called “supra” if half of you knew what you were talking about then ud love it! if toyota produces this car they will sell the shit out of it!!!!
Its a big IF Joe; The Celica-Supra was once regarded as the benchmark for japanese sports cars/coupes; during it’s absence it has lost that title to the Nissan GT-R…. Therefore; Toyota will have to work hard to build something good enough to overtake Godzilla.
having said that they came pretty close to building a Compact Luxury Sports Car that could out perform the benchmark that is the BMW M3; in the form of the IS-F.
It’s nice to see that Toyota have finally started to build cars with a bit flair let alone some Passion
This car looks horrid, like a white version of the bat mobile.
supra, the way it was .:;’the way it is, ToyoTa. . Moving ForwarD
As we all know the Supra it was always a cool and good looking car, its image till this day still as the cool Toyota so if Toyota were to make the new Supra as a come back model they must bring it back 100% cooler, greater and more powerful, the front end must be changed, redone, the rear end also, otherwise it will be just another car Toyota has made not The Supra that Toyota has made as it was once before.
It’s a true beauty. Unfortunately it has lost the distinctive looks from the previous supra as it is a total re-design on the drawing board and not an upgrade. The curves are not as streamlined as the previous supra does but let’s hope the performance will be as lagendary as the previous one does.
That thing can go die in a hole. WTH type of POS have they turned the Supra into?
