Audi gets World Cup fever : builds giant LED scoreboard

Audi has World Cup fever. And to prove it, it has stacked 28 Audi A8s together to form a 40-foot LED scoreboard.

Set up by the German brand's US division on the shores of Greenpoint in Brooklyn, New York, the scoreboard is intended to celebrate the 2014 soccer World Cup and the US team’s involvement in the event.

Comprising 45 shipping containers in total, the Audi A8 scoreboard – which the car maker says can be seen from an airplane – works by using the flagship models' unique matrix LED headlights.

A four-week installation covering both US and international teams’ games, the LED scoreboard will run until July 14.

Audi of America director of marketing Loren Angelo said, “Audi is proud to bring the passion of international soccer to the shores of Manhattan with a fun, eye-catching LED installation".

Despite going down 3–2 to Netherlands in their last match, Australia’s own Socceroos remain in third spot in Group B ahead of the recently ousted defending champions Spain.

Launched locally in May, the refreshed 2014 Audi A8 starts from $195,000.
