Andrew M

Tools, GMC were generally overpriced toys, too many established makers to contend with IMO.

Costco opens in Melbourne this year, there could be some retail casualties.

Swampdawg,
The bit i love is how they say retail has only really slumped during this recent crisis.
The real picture is that retail has been on the slide for over 10 years (houses and cars excluded)

Retail will never be what it once was 10 years ago.
Retail has been ruined by new shopping centre after new shopping centre being given go aheads left right and centre, and the councils dont care as they only see more revenue for themselves.
Retail is also being increasingly hurt from the internet and the public slowly warming to it over the years

GMC tools.....
I dont think its fair to say any company being wiped out is a good thing.
Sure GMCs products arent exactlly a Dewalt or Makita, but there is plenty of other handyman rubbish out there that will only fill the void left by GMC. There will always be a market for throw away power drills

"Ricerboy, clearly your not smart enough"

Hey BM, I'm not defending the "Ricerboy" - you shot yourself in the foot by not spelling "you're" correctly.

Anyway, the end is very near for GM now...

swampdawg,

both are also companies that arent far from being wiped off the earth.

if you watch the business news outside of the auto sector, GMC (the tool maker) is in a very bad way too, and has been for a while
