Forza Motorsport 5 gains Nürburgring via free download

Players of Forza Motorsport 5 on Xbox One can now race around the Nürburgring for no additional charge.

The game's developer, Turn 10, has made a new free track pack available for the game. The download pack includes three versions of the Nürburgring track, including the 21km Nordschleife or northern loop, the Grand Prix circuit and the 26km combined circuit.

To bring possibly the world's most famous track onto the Xbox One, the team at Turn 10 laser scanned the circuit. It then employed a team of over 30 artists to recreate the circuit virtually. All up, the company says it invested 13,000 man hours to bring every corner, bump, tree and piece of track graffiti to life.

Upon downloading the track into the game, the Nürburgring and its various incarnations will available in single-player career and rivals mode, as well as multiplayer.

This isn't the first time that the Nürburgring has been made available in the Forza Motorsport series — the circuit was last present in Forza Motorsport 3 on Xbox 360 — but it does mark the first appearance of the track on the latest generation of game consoles. The most recent edition of the rival Gran Turismo series includes the Nürburgring, but the game is only available on the older PlayStation 3 system.

In addition to the new track, Turn 10 is also making available a Nürburgring Booster Car Pack. This package includes the 1989 Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO, 1967 Brabham BT24 (above), 2013 Formula Ford EcoBoost 2000, 1939 Maserati 8CTF and 1956 Lotus Eleven. Unlike the track, though, these cars will come at an additional cost to Forza Motorsport 5 owners.
