Next Nissan Navara teased online, will be revealed June 11

The next Nissan Navara ute has been teased by the company on its global Instagram account, as well as a video (above) aimed at the Thai market.

Even with translucent sheeting in the way, it's clear that the new Navara will feature an evolution of the current car's boxy, rugged styling. At least on upscale trim levels, there's a revised version of Nissan's corporate truck grille complete with plenty of chrome (similar to the new, softer Pathfinder SUV) which is flanked by large headlights that come with integrated LED daytime running lights.

With a reveal slated for June 11, Nissan is staying rather tight lipped at the moment. The cloaked model is expected to be an all-new version of the new Navara, as was hinted at by Nissan chief Andy Palmer at the New York auto show in April. At that time, Palmer indicated that buyers should expect to see a similarly sized vehicle with improved styling, presentation and economy figures.

“It’s around about the same [size] – one-tonne pickups are fairly generic in terms of their overall dimensions,” Palmer told CarAdvice, indicating a length of about 5.3 metres would be likely.

“I think its about what you deliver on fuel consumption, what you deliver on styling … these are the key differentiators for that kind of pickup market,” Palmer said.

The teaser video above takes a walk down memory lane by showing various Nissan/Datsun utes from yesteryear. These include some of its earliest models, as well as a few of the company's entrants in the Dakar Rally. It closes on the shot of the veiled new model.

If earlier reports are on the money, the next Navara will spawn an associated SUV to take on the likes of the Holden Colorado 7 and Ranger-based Ford Everest.

The current generation D40 Navara was first revealed to world way back in 2004. It remains on sale in Australia in single-, king- and dual-cab formats, with the choice of 4x2 and 4x4 versions. Alongside it in showrooms is the previous generation D22 version, which serves a price leader for Nissan's utility range.

The all-new Navara is expected to replace both of those models in one fell swoop. Nissan Australia told CarAdvice the all-new Navara range will arrive in Australia before the end of 2014 or at the start of 2015.

Navara sales have dipped off heavily this year, with the 4x2 model down 57.3 per cent (532 sold to the end of April) and 4x4 numbers down by 47.5 per cent (4368 to end of April).
