Peugeot RCZ R pricing and specifications

The Peugeot RCZ R is the brand's most powerful road-going car ever, and has just become its most expensive model too - priced at $68,990.

The new flagship two-door RCZ R coupe is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 199kW of power at 6000rpm and 330Nm of torque from 1900-5500rpm, with a claimed sprint time of 5.9 seconds from 0-100km/h (nearly two seconds faster than the standard model) and fuel consumption claimed at 6.3L/100km. The RCZ R weighs 1355kg compared with the entry model's 1372kg mass.

The car shares its base engine with the standard RCZ (which has 147kW/275Nm in manual guise), though it boasts a reinforced block, new forged pistons, new conrods, upgraded polymer-coated bearings, a new intercooler and twin-scroll turbocharger. It also scores a strengthened six-speed manual gearbox with a new clutch, and Peugeot has also upgraded the exhaust and air intake with an "enhanced sound system" to boost engine noise inside the cabin.

Helping power to the ground is a Torsen differential, and a broader front track for the RCZ R should also improve cornering stability. The car rides on revised dampers and features stiffer springs, while it rolls on 19-inch alloys with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tyres and "for outstanding road-holding", with four-piston brakes helping pull things up.

Its $68,990 price tag represents a jump of $10,000 over the existing RCZ range, and carries over much of the standard equipment seen in that model such as front and rear parking sensors and satellite navigation. There are some changes inside, though, with R badging on the dashboard, red stitching throughout the leather- and Alcantara-trimmed cabin - including on the front sports bucket seats which are emblazoned with the R logo. It misses out on the heated seats of the cheaper model, though.

The RCZ R can be ordered in four colours - Moroccan Red, Perla Nera Black, Mercury Grey and Opal White. It comes with a fixed rear spoiler rather than the retractable unit seen on the standard car.

The RCZ R has Peugeot’s five-year capped priced service plan, as well as a three year/100,000km warranty and three years of roadside assistance coverage.
