Kia Sportage pricing and specifications

The updated Kia Sportage compact SUV has gone on sale in Australia, bringing a revised range and pricing, a new petrol engine and subtle cosmetic tweaks.

The new 2.0-litre four-cylinder direct injection petrol engine replaces the existing 2.0-litre mill with multi-point injection. It produces 122kW of power at 6200rpm and 205Nm of torque at 4000rpm, upping its pulling power over the old engine by 8Nm.

Fuel use is improved, too, with claimed consumption of 8.2 litres per 100km for the six-speed manual, 8.4L for the six-speed automatic two-wheel drive, and 8.6L for the all-wheel-drive version (previously 8.7L manual and 8.8L auto).

The 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder engine also remains available mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic with drive sent to all four wheels. Its power and torque outputs remain the same - 135kW at 4000rpm; 392Nm at 1800-2500rpm - and so does its fuel consumption, at 7.2L/100km.

The South Korean brand's five-seat SUV now starts at $25,990 for the entry-level Si front-wheel-drive six-speed manual model, which is a jump of $500 over the existing car. The automatic version is now priced at $28,190, up $600.

As was the case with the previous model, the Si features reverse parking sensors, cloth trim seats, a six-speaker stereo with USB and auxiliary inputs and Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, 16-inch alloy wheels with a full-size spare and six airbags (dual front, front-side, full-length curtain).

A new specification level has been added in the lower price range, with the Si Premium model listed at $29,990. It brings 17-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights, roof-rails, electric folding side mirrors, auto headlights, an auto-dimming rear-vision mirror, a reverse-view camera, part-leather seat trim, lumbar support for the driver's seat, and leather steering wheel and gearknob. It is available as a front-wheel drive petrol automatic only.

The SLi specification remains available with all-wheel-drive only, with the petrol model priced at $34,790 (up $1300) and the diesel now $37,790 (up $800). Over the Si Premium, SLi models add front parking sensors, a 4.2-inch colour instrument cluster panel, cooled glovebox, dual-zone climate control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen media system hooked up to an Infinity audio system with subwoofer and amplifier, satellite-navigation and a shark fin-style antenna.

The top-end all-wheel-drive Platinum models are priced at $38,390 for the petrol (up $1900) and $41,390 for the diesel (up $1400). Over the SLi, the Platinum comes with smart key entry and push-button start, eight-way power driver's seat, front and rear seat warmers, panoramic sunroof, HID headlights and LED tail-lights.
