BMW 2 Series Convertible spied with minimal camouflage

These are the best pictures yet of the new-generation BMW 2 Series Convertible.

CarAdvice's spies have caught the new small drop-top from BMW on the road in Munich, Germany, and while previous sneaky images of the new 2 Series Convertible showed almost every panel covered in camouflage, the latest batch give the best indication yet as to what the new car will look like.

The minimal number of swirly stickers only hide finer details such as the outer edging of the headlights and tail-lights, blinkers, badges and bumper edges. These pictures better indicate the lines of the taut black fabric folding roof, and the shape of the boot lid and the profile of the car's rear flanks, which closely mimic the larger 4 Series Convertible.

Expected to be offered with the same engine range as the 2 Series Coupe, including a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol 220i model with 135kW/270Nm, a 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder 220d variant producing 135kW/380Nm, and a range-topping M235i with a 3.0-litre turbo six-cylinder with 240kW and 450Nm. Gearboxes will be either a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto.

The 2 Series range currently kicks off at $50,500, and the Convertible is expected to attract a premium of at least $5000 across each spec level.

The 2 Series Convertible is expected to debut either at the 2014 Paris motor show in October or at the 2015 Detroit auto show.
