BMW M3 and M4 : available with BMW Service Inclusive and condition based servicing

With the introduction of the BMW M3 and M4 in June, BMW will offer both vehicles with its own version of fixed-price servicing and a servicing scheme that is unshackled from the traditional kilometre or time-based schedules.

Known as BMW Service Inclusive (BSI) and Condition Based Service (CBS) respectively, the later leaves the servicing schedule to the car, rather than a preset value of time or distance while the former allows buyer to pay in advance for future services to avoid a surprise.

The M3 and M4 use a variety of sensors and computer systems that examine distance, time, fuel consumption and how the vehicle has been driven to determine when and what type of service is required.

BMW says this methodology will mean servicing is adjusted based on actual use, helping minimise costs for infrequently-driven vehicles and better servicing those that see plenty of use.

Although an annual check is still required, the system will inform owners when either an annual vehicle inspection or an oil service is due.

BSI packages to cover selected maintenance costs with a single, one-off advance payment. Buyers can pick between BSI Basic or Plus packages, with the former providing scheduled servicing cover while the premium package combines scheduled servicing and selected maintenance items.

Owners have to pre-select a year range and kilometre option (which starts from three years/60,000kms) and can extend and transfer the cover further owners before expiry.
