Trident Iceni Magna and Venturer :: world’s quickest diesel sports cars set for global roll-out

Two doors, four wheels, a 6.6-litre turbo diesel V8 and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.7 seconds. This little piece of insanity is known as the Trident Iceni sports car.

The British sports car brand has announced its plans to roll out the Iceni Magna coupe and Iceni Venturer shooting brake wagon on a global scale - and Australian buyers are apparently able to buy the car.

"As each car is made to a custom spec, they can be shipped anywhere in the world," a company spokeswoman told CarAdvice.

If you were to buy one, there's a chance it would be challenging to register for road use. But let's just rollick in the extraordinary nature of this car for a minute.

As mentioned, it runs a huge 6.6-litre turbocharged V8 diesel engine from a pickup truck, which is tuned to run on bio-diesel and apparently boasts a range of as much as 2000 miles (3219 kilometres) on a single tank. The engine produces a walloping 295kW of power and 950Nm of torque using what the company describes as "torque multiplication technology" - but if that much pulling power isn't enough, there's an upgrade pack which pushes peak outputs to 485kW and 1433Nm.

That cryptic technology keeps revs low and helps the engine cut fuel consumption "by 20 per cent" according to the brand, which means the engine never works hard - it coasts at just 980rpm, and the six-speed automatic transmission is designed to shift up a gear at 3000rpm to make the most of the torque produced by the engine. But it's not hampered by a low top speed - the company says it could hit 200 miles per hour (322km/h).

Phil Bevan, designer and founder of Trident said: “The Trident cars deliver incredible speed & performance combined with outstanding fuel efficiency, achieved through our unique torque multiplication technology.”

Prices start at £96,000 ($174,000) and max out at £126,000 ($228,000). Prices don't include delivery and other charges.
