World car of the year, how about world lemon of the decade?

I've got a 118 TSI which is suffering major mechanical issues. Its had 6 days in the workshop and will be there for 5 days the week after next having major repairs to its brake pedal assemble once again. VW pretty much says tough luck, that's why we give you a new car warranty... Appalling and absolutely no commitment to customer care or satisfaction. This was my 3rd new Golf, there won't be another...

Dear Wheelnut,

I have always taken Mr Matthew Wilson's comments with a grain of salt and I totally agree with your comments about him.

I have owned a VW Golf MK III 2.0 GL for 10 years and a bit and it has been a very good car, that's my experience anyway.

Ofcourse all car makes will have for and against but if you sell 26 million or so VW Golf's you must be doing something right and the latest award given to the new VW Golf VI is clear evidence.

Regards,

Tom

Tom - Mr Clive Matthew Wilson [The so called expert] isn't what you could call a Motoring Journalist he is merely a Uni graduate / academic with a distored rather simplistic view on the world - like a number of others on this site

Not only that but in his so called Magazine he bags virtually every car.. every car that doesn't have a Toyota badge on it that is.. mind you what do you expect from someone who drives a Morris Estate - now there's motoring excellence

Thing is every car has certain problems in some areas be it design engine brakes/suspension interior etc it all depends on how hard you look and how you rate the severity.

Having said I think that the VW Golf is a worthy winner particularly as VW look at a car as an overall project unlike some who design/build a car bit by bit then hope it all comes together

Mr Clive Matthew-Wilson from NZ, author of the Dog and Lemon Guide is always keen to bag every Euro car, especially VW.

I wonder if he was on this panel of 59 international automotive journalists from the 25 countries involved.

I've been on leave so missed this.

Congrats VW - the Golf proves once again it is a very good car. I'm seriously considering it for my next purchase.

What's with all the "small boot" talk - at 350L the Golf has an average to large boot for a hatchback, the Subie Impreza has 301L, Mazda3 340L, i30 340L and the Corolla a very limited 283L (never hear that mentioned when ppl praise this car).

Karen, we once had a woman on here saying that she'd never buy a Golf because she had a friend who borrowed a Golf and it cost thousands of dollars in repairs just because she put the wrong petrol in. HRRRMMPH! Such bad cars.

How DARE the Tdi not accept Unleaded!

The thing about the internet is you only really hear about the problems. You don't get lots of people saying, "hey there's absolutely nothing wrong with my Golf", instead everyone reports on what issues they do have. It's like that with all products.

If I was to browse some Mac forums or a Sony forum, I'm sure I could very easily come to the conclusion that both are very unreliable, because everyone posts the faults, never the good.

Oh, and just because some friend of a friend f yours had a few issues with their Golf, doesn't mean that every Mk V out on the road today is going to blow up at any second.

Karen, I may be wrong but I will just write that sometimes the comments don't work. It might not be CA but a glitch in the site. Have you tried again?

Tim, I think you're taking that a bit far. If you don't agree with what CA is doing in your mind then get off their website. Maybe they speak highly of them because they are good cars and some simply can't accept that?
