Ford Ranger 4×4 XL Plus expands ute line-up

Starting at $46,280 and available in single- and double-cab chassis and double-cab pick-up body styles, Ford says the Ranger 4x4 XL Plus has been specifically developed to “fulfil the needs of the mining industry, key government agencies, as well as private Ranger customers".

With these sectors in mind, the new Ford Ranger 4x4 XL Plus features a locking rear differential, 3500kg-rated tow bar, 4x4 shields, moulded black bumpers, mud flaps and 17-inch steel wheels with all-terrain Continental tyres.

Daytime running lights, running boards (double-cab only) and heavy duty canvas seat covers also feature in the XL-based model, along with an expanded wiring harness, a second battery and a second battery isolator. A steel bull bar is optional and does not affect the model's five-star ANCAP safety rating.

The Ranger's existing 147kW/470Nm 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and six-speed automatic transmission carry over, as do Bluetooth connectivity and cruise control.

On sale from May, the new Ford Ranger 4x4 XL Plus joins a revised 2014 range that also now adds side airbags to the 2.2-litre four-cylinder petrol-powered 4x2 XL single-cab chassis – now up $650 – and satellite navigation to 4x2 and 4x4 XLT variants – up $500.
