Mercedes-Benz MLC-Class : Full gallery and new details

The Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe SUV has been unveiled at the 2014 Beijing auto show, revealing new design and performance details of the car that previews next year’s all-new MLC-Class luxury crossover.

Revealed two weeks ago in a single image, the complete gallery uncovers the concept’s swoopy rear end, which features a heavily raked rear windscreen and a stubby, high-mounted boot lid lip that’s highly reminiscent of the MLC’s natural rival, the BMW X6.

Spanning the tailgate and rear quarter panels is a thin LED light strip that shares design cues with the brand’s flagship two-door model, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, while the rear bumper has hints of the compact GLA-Class in its lines and contours.

At 4935mm long, 2044mm wide, 1739mm tall and riding on a 2916mm wheelbase, the Concept Coupe SUV is 59mm longer, 61mm wider and 55mm taller than the X6, though is 17mm shorter between the wheels.

The concept is powered by a 245kW/480Nm twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 and teamed with a nine-speed automatic transmission and the brand’s 4Matic permanent all-wheel-drive system.

Its air suspension features selective damping and an active curve roll stabilisation system, while high-performance ceramic composite brakes sit behind massive 22-inch alloy wheels at its corners.

Though still to be officially confirmed, the Concept Coupe SUV will be badged MLC-Class when it enters production in 2015 and arrives in Australian showrooms the following year. Positioned above the large ML-Class SUV on which it’s based, the MLC crossover will become the sixth SUV in the local division’s line-up, joining GLA, ML, GL, G, and the upcoming GLK.
