They’ve long been the butt of offensive and often unfair jokes, but Collingwood fans are now being spoilt rotten – first discounted dental, and now with the chance to make a mark with a limited edition Holden Commodore.

The Holden VF Commodore can now be enhanced with an option package, to commemorate the car maker’s sponsorship of the Collingwood Football Club.

Holden’s Australian product communications manager Kate Lonsdale said the launch of the Collingwood Edition Commodore targets the club’s loyal fan base and is available on any Heron White SV6, SS or SS V sedan.

Forget bumper stickers and flags sticking up out of windows, hardcore fans can now take their allegiance and dedication to the club, to an unprecedented level.

For $3500 a Commodore can be transformed into what’s being called a ‘Collingwoodore’, dressed to impress in the Pies monochromatic footy colours.

Collingwood Holden 2

Collingwood’s chief executive Gary Pert said, “The limited edition factory enhanced VF Commodore, adorned with black and white stripes, Collingwood carpet floor mats and limited edition badging came to fruition following feedback from our members and supporters.”

The Collingwood Edition Commodore also features black 20” alloy wheels, a black spoiler and black mirrors, vents and grilles, and can be ordered from any Holden dealer.

No word if this will become Eddie McGuire’s new company car or whether Ford will counter with a Geelong Cats edition Falcon.

The full package: RRP $3500

If this was 1 April I would have thought that this was an April Fools joke. So many people I know refuse to buy the Commodore even though they admit it is fantastic value and a fantastic car because of its Bogan image (no offence to the Collingwood fans). Can you imagine having a Mazda 3 (the top selling car) aligned to a footy team in this way. Marketing desperation that will alienate the majority of car buyers.

    • guest

That’s strange, I don’t know anyone who thinks something is both a great product and fantastic value but won’t buy it because of the image.

      • Guest (1)

You don’t know anyone that buys on brand alone? Holden is counting on the Collingwood Brand to sell its cars rather than price, handling, engine ouput etc etc. Misguided of course.

        • guest

I understand what your saying. What I mean is I think Holden is reasonable value but I don’t like the product so im not really passionate about the brand. If they made a product which I felt was a great car and great value I would definitely change my mind and buy one. That’s what I found confusing.
Back on the car though it would say a lot about the brand power of both Holden and Collingwood if people actually paid an extra $3500 for this!

    • Cobrajet

Actually there was a soccer themed Opel Astra released on April Fools day. GM used same idea for Holden, thinking this could work considering the fact most Colllingwood fans are bogans and drive Holdens. I doesn’t matter what they do now, they are shutting down anyway.

      • Chad

Collingwood fans cant afford a toothbrush let alone a new Commodore .

        • Cobrajet

The fans won’t buy them, but they will have a chance to win one if they become member of the Collingwood team. A Collingwood player could still afford one.

    • Guest

Mazda is used for the celebrities giggle race at Philip Is. Sums it up, you wouldn’t put novices in anything that might have some real power.

  • Go Pies

I can’t afford one of these on my centre link payments… maybe I can steal one…?

  • Evergreen Terrace

Will there ever be a more targeted car by vandals? I think not!

  • Westie

    Geelong Falc next?
As has been said, the cringe factor on this, and the vandal magnetism, are unbelievable.
Still, I seem to remember this has been done with that other code with the round ball in other parts of the world for years.

  • Joe

…..when the bloke goes to pick the car up from the dealership, does the good lady wife receive a bouquet of Boganvillias(spelt incorrectly on purpose just in case someone comments!!)…….

  • Cobrajet

It makes sense why they would do this, when I see a lot commodores that have collingwood stickers on them. Save the bogans the trouble by having them fitted from the factory. It couldn’t get more fair dinkum Aussie then this.

  • Phil

just park your Commodore in my driveway, the magpies around here will stripe it for free 😉

They should do a version for the Australian rugby league team in green and gold, with a warming tray in the console. Football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars…

  • Golfschwein

    Hey, I really like that!

    • Golfschwein

      And thumping sausage

  • ChaosMaster

Can you get the package without the Collingwood badging/logo? It’s a pretty good package otherwise.

    • Captain Nemo®™

I was just thinking the same thing, Black wheels on a white car any car from a cheapie to an exotic look awesome.

    • http://www.doubleudoubleudoubleudotdotcomdotau.com.au Alex Martini

Yes. Everything else is optional on their own.

  • 2B Frank

One of Australia’s favourite brans supporting Australia’s most hated team ,doesn’t make sense THINK HOLDEN .

  • Barry

Very clever from Holden. This could one of the collectable Commodores.Lets hope the Magpie fans take Holden up on the offer.

    • Chad

It will be less popular than a Peter Brock Falcon

  • Zaccy16

Give me a hawks SSV any day! this would have the lowest resale of any car on the market!! bogan express in SS guise

    • Roadtard

That’d be one for the ages!

    • Golfschwein

Ha ha, you gotta be careful what you wish for, Zaccy. A chocolate brown and yellow HSV? Hmmm 😉

      • Roadtard

        Brown and gold, Golfschwein. Gold.

        • Karl Sass

          Still nasty.

        • Phil

          Go Hawks,

      • Byron

Disgusting, and your a moderator? Don’t be do childish

        • Golfschwein

Not understanding you, sorry. There’s absolutely nothing in my comment other than imagining a brown and yellow Commodore, which wouldn’t be the prettiest thing. What did you think I meant?

    • Phil

      Yeh. Go Hawks.

  • Scott

I can just see the Motor Finance Wizard being very busy at the moment approving finance packages, hopefully he will say No for the first time.

  • Sydlocal

You can just imagine the dealer saying to the Collingwood supporter wishing to buy one (in their finest McDonalds voice) ‘would you like teeth with that?’ Or maybe that will be an option when they send them over to the ‘Ming Mole’! 😉 TVFPIC

You’ve got to love how Holden’s marketing department works. Most popular large car + most popular AFL team + a whole lot of stuff that comes as standard or already optional + $2 worth of hideous badges = marketing success. Well done to you Holden.
