2015 Ford Focus sedan facelift revealed ahead of New York auto show

The three-box model has been unveiled ahead of its debut at the 2014 New York auto show next week, boasting a similar Aston Martin-inspired grille at the front of the car as is seen on the facelifted Focus hatchback and wagon models (which were revealed at the Geneva motor show in March), though the US market SE Sport model shown by Ford features the blacked-out treatment rather than a chromed nose.

There's more black at the back, too, with the vehicle showcased fitted with a black boot-lip rear spoiler. Revised tail-lights also feature, as well as 17-inch alloy wheels with black highlights.

The 2015 Focus’ new drivetrains include a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine that will be available in 110kW and 132kW outputs, and a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel that will be offered in 70kW and 88kW tunes in Europe. Gearbox choices include a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic and dual-clutch 'boxes.

The turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol-powered Focus will be offered with a six-speed auto, too, and a frugal manual version has claimed CO2 emissions of 99 grams per kilometre. The 1.0-litre engine is available in 74kW and 92kW tunes, both with 170Nm.

Ford Australia said the updated Focus will arrive in local showrooms in 2015 - we'd expect it will likely reach our shores around the middle of next year, with powertrains and specifications still to be finalised.

The Ford Focus sedan facelift comes as the brand boasts about its 2013 sales figures. The brand says the Focus was the most popular nameplate once again in 2013, outselling the Toyota Corolla globally with 1,097,618 sales, according to industry analyst Polk's sales data. That figure is a jump of 8.1 per cent on 2012 (1,014,965), with China accounting for more than 403,000 vehicles.
