There’s a new coupe-inspired SUV on the block: meet the Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe SUV.
A single image of the Concept Coupe SUV was revealed by Mercedes-Benz CEO Dieter Zetsche at Daimler AG annual shareholder’s meeting. The production model is expected to be called the MLC, and according to a release from the company, it will make it to production in 2015.
“The sportily styled coupe study with the added value of an SUV provides a realistic glimpse of a series-production vehicle expected next year, which will boast very dynamic handling,” the release stated.
“With the Concept Coupe SUV we aim to secure new customers by opening up new segments for Mercedes-Benz,” Zetsche said. “We see a great deal of potential for Mercedes-Benz in the combination of coupé and SUV. We will be officially unveiling the Concept Coupe SUV in just under two weeks at the Beijing Auto Show.”
Despite its GLA-like appearance, the new model is expected to measure about five metres in length and almost two metres in width. No rear image has been revealed, but it’s clear that the car will feature a steeply raked roofline at the rear.
Just weeks ago, Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kallenius, made the company’s intentions in the SUV segment clear.
“There must be others but it’s a tad too early to go into specifics. In every size [of SUV] we are in a good position but it is conceivable we will add further SUV products in next few years,” he said.
